  • Intended to go out and buy stuff to either make or take to work, but had a bit of a lazy day so it's an nsd instead. I shall buy stuff in my way home tomorrow instead.
Made some potatoe salad , enough with lunch and to go with a wrap this evening.
I only have a tiny kitchen so have an extras storage box. Had a quick look through it this morning, must have 10 small tins of sweet corn so need to look at recipes, sweetcorn fritters spring to mind initially. What I also need to do is make an inventory of what I have in the box so not buying tonnes of duplicates ( unless on offer)
Have a big bag of carrots in the fridge, so tomorrow after work ( need some eggs), I shall make a carrot cake and some spiced kidney bean burgers. Later on the week I shall make some spiced carrot and lentil soup - one of my fave soups.

If nothing else I really want to get into the position of not wasting food. I work full time and whatever I thrown away is really wasted hours of work. Might only be a couple of pounds a week - but collectively over a year it's £150 which is unnescassary waste and wasted hours of work.

Might even make the soup this afternoon and freeze it. So no excuses of tiredness.

If anyone has any cracking sweet corn recipes - would love them xx

  • Ooh I cancelled my overdraft facility. If its there i can use it - don't want the temptation. So cancelled it this morning.

It's scary as its always been my comfort blanket, however once I'm deeply in the comfort blanket it feels like a ball and chain around my foot. I think from next month I shall impose my own £50 overdraft. It will be a credit balance that I shall try not to dip into but will be there if all else fails.

    Xx

  • That sounds lovely, I really like home made soup :)

I've had a no-spend day so far (except for my PAD) of pampering and I went for a swim this morning at the local hotel where I have membership. I swim almost everyday so the membership works out about a quarter of the price of using public baths.

Hubby has been out since 8 this morning and has offered to take me out for a quick dinner when he gets back which will be nice.

Big week ahead with hubby back at the hospital to see if he can finally go back to work. Fingers crossed!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday :)

  • Well done on your nsd. I'm just in the process of working out what I have left to pay ( wish all my dd came out at the beginning of the month). I'm hoping that there will be a few pounds left that I can make another payment with.

Have a few bits and bobs to buy this week but hopefully will have enough left over to make another payment at the end of the week.

Looking forward to next month when I have a spending account and a bills account.

Hope you have a lovely meal. Let me know how your husband gets on, fingers crossed for you both xx

  • Well had a result on the biscuit front today, intended getting some on my way home, however stepping into a supermarket it would have been highly unlikely that I would walk out with just biscuits.

Lunch time at work and colleague going to sainsburys and asked him to get some. Had budgeted £4 but gave him£5. Thought if he spends the £5 then its only £1.00 over budget. Told him to pick and he came back with 2 packs costing me £2. If I had brought 2 packs I would have felt tight but because someone else got them I'm fine about it.

So 2 pound under budget - which I was going to put in my emergency fund (every little helps) however I got home and the window cleaner had been so £5 I had forgotten about.

He will call back during the week so can't put paying it off.

Not got a lot of money left till pay day so shall have to remember next month to factor the window cleaner in.

I suppose it's all relative really, not having a lot of money is compared to having a couple of hundreds pounds left on my overdraft limit and being able to use my credit cards without thought of consequence.

I am also one of those people who like to have cash in my purse and it seems very strange at the moment that I don't have much. I know having it in my purse isn't a good idea as I will spend it on nothing. Just feels odd right now.

So it's all a learning curve and getting use to a smaller amount. I know that it's a choice really. No one is forcing me to curb my spending and I know it's in my interest but feel out of my comfort zone.

I don't really know why I'm feeling this way, I'm not going without. There's nothing I need or want. I'm just not being impulsive with spending. Maybe that's what it is, wings clipped. Anyway I'm sure I shall get use to it.

Shall probably feel brighter come Friday as it will only be a week till payday, so maybe it's me just identifying that the third week in the month is a potential issue and try work round it.

Like I mentioned its a choice right now if I had continued on my old way I wouldn't have a choice and I think that would be much more frustrating as I would have been incredibly angry with myself for burying my head in the sand for that long.

    Axx
