  • Well I have looked at my bank account and my purse. Taking into account bills that have to be paid I have £151.79 left for the month. Food shopping is done for the week ( except a few bits and bobs), so this weeks budget is £15. I have therefore transferred £5 into my emergency fund and a payment of £6.79 to my evens account. I will therefore have £125.00 left (hopefully) come Saturday.
Feeling very proud of myself and very happy that my head is no longer in the sands xx

  • I'm sat here watching tv, completely chilled and realise that not that long ago, I might have been sat in in the same position but my brain wasn't in the same place.
Whilst I wasn't dealing with the debt problem, I was aware I had one. Whilst my head was in the sand I was aware I would have to tackle it at some point. So although I was denial it was probably consuming me more than how I am now.
It's like that drawer or cupboard that I have, that I chuck everything in and then shut. I know eventually I will have to sort it out but can ignore it most of the time when it's shut. I know it's not going to magically sort itself out whilst the door is shut and I know it's not going to empty itself whilst the door is shut but sometimes it feels easier to add to it than to sort it or empty it. There does come a day when enough is enough and it gets sorted, put in its place and the rubbish thrown away and it no longer becomes a chore to go in the drawer.
That's how I feel today, the drawer isn't empty but its tidy and I know where everything is and it's in the process of being emptied.i wouldn't necessarily be happy for others to look in the drawer but it won't be too long before it gets emptier and emptier.

    A xx

  • You've made it through the weekend in one piece and without spending, one down and many to go but at least you know it's achievable :)

I love the analogy about the untidy drawer, I have one just like it but I just can't face clearing it out at the moment, even though most of its contents will go in the bin! Tackling my debts is easy now as I know I am in control and doing the extra to pay them off.

  • You are doing brilliant Rhonda, you inspire me so much. 418 days to debt free is fantastic. I have further to go but know I will get there and the support on here is fantastic.

Think we all have one of those drawers xx

  • Thanks Andrea, I appreciate your support. I don't plan to stop when it gets to my debt-free day, I then want to attack the mortgage... We don't have a big expensive house but with hubby's condition I want to be in a position where we don't owe anything in case he deteriorates. I aim to be mortgage free by the age of 43... That's a challenge!

  • Hope you had a good Monday... I've had a manic day at work but decided to apply to reclaim my PPI... It was a long time ago but worth a shot!

  • Hi Hunny, that's how I felt about my PPI, don't think I will get anything but you never know. I'm a civil servant so get excellent sick/redundancy package so would never knowingly ask for it. Years ago though you didn't appear to have the option, if you wanted a loan you had to have ppi. Let me know if you hear anything.

Had a really bad nights sleep so really didn't want to get out of bed this morning for work.... Very glad when it was home time.

A nsd for me so two on a trot going to aim for three.

£80 in my account from mazuma and feel a bit pulled!! I want to pay it towards my Evans account but also want to put it in my savings. I had 10 mins to kill before my bus home in leeds today - and the co-op was calling so decided to check my emergency account at the ATM instead and it would be lovely to add some extra to that. I think I shall sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

Odd how things change- I would have used the money previously towards a handbag - sucker for handbags!! Now debt or savings?? And don't feel remotely sad that I'm not spending it.

I have submitted a claim for £6.00 at work for some expenses so shall pay that to my Evans account - so at least one payment today.

Hope all is well with you xx

  • I'm glad Monday is over that's for sure! A PPI win would be handy and I could throw it at one of my cards.

I too have a thing for handbags much to hubby's annoyance! But they're just soooo pretty! :)
