  • Not happy... Looks like yesterday overtime is now spent.

Went out into the garden ( not touched it for an age as not had time or energy) started doing some weeding and must have disturbed a wasps nest. So ended up being stung twice on my leg, my thumb and my face.

Currently covered in towels dipped in vinegar to try and neutralise the sting.

Next step was to look at how I get rid of the nest... Looks like its a phone call to pest control with the council and a £50 charge ( my brother has just told me it could be a fair bit more as its active)

Never mind, there is always going to be something xx

  • Oh no! That's terrible hun, my dad just had to have one removed from behind their shed... Hope they're not too painful.

That's a typical example of life getting in the way... Happens to me often. At least you had worked the overtime to compensate.

  • Well now that I've got over the shock of being stung. I'm thinking of the rest of the day.

When I was in the garden little apple tree was full of fruit so what was ripe I picked. ( it's one of those little trees that has three varieties on) the majority of the fruits are baking apples so just popped out and brought eggs and flora for making apple cakes later. Would have previously used butter but as there is plenty of cinnamon in I don't think the tast difference will be too obvious.

At the same time managed to get some burgin bread for 39p as its bb today it's gone straight in the freezer. That will be bread for sandwiches all week.

    Def getting into dfw mindset.

Any way before the baking fest begins later its grad prix viewing xx

  • +1 on the DIY porridge.

Take normal supermarket value porridge oats, add a few raisins for sweetness. Just cover with boiling water, stir and leave for about a minute. As a treat, add a small amount of cold milk on top once "cooked" (about the same amount of milk that one might add to a mug of tea). Easy, cheap, filling and diabetic-friendly!

Thanks Tracey, going to give it ago, feel totally stupid for being ripped if by oats so simple ... Every day is a school day.

Well after yesterday's wasp stings I have spent since 4 am trying to resist scratching. Itching like mad. Have remembered I had some antihistamines in and have taken one of them, can't say it's made much difference. At least I didn't go out and buy some to find out it made no difference.

Determined not to get up at stupid o'clock and to take my mind of the itching I have been planning for when my sister is over next week.
She is stopping at mine Tuesday through to Friday. She has never budgeted in her life and is particular food wise, preferring conserve to jam, taste the difference to value (don't we all but needs must at times). She also has no qualms in spending a fortune on meals out so preperation is needed.
Tuesday I'm working so it will be an easy meal in the evening. Have some lamb steaks in the freezer, jacket potatoes, veg.one meal sorted.
Wednesday, shall get some jam from lidl ( been told theirs is good for the money) and some nice artisan bread and that will do. Lunch I am going to try and persuade her that a cheap and cheerful soup and roll would be enough. Evening at my mums.
Thursday - breakfast, bacon sandwich? Meeting my niece then round the art galleries etc ( free so my idea) and then shopping. Evening not sure yet. My niece has a gormet card so maybe able to find a nice place with 50% off.
Friday, scrambled egg and smoked salmon on toast. Lunch snacky type stuff and then she's off home.
Have done a shopping list with some extras for snacking, with a mixture of value and half price items. My theory is if I take them out if the packet she won't know and it may just demonstrate she is a brand snob and taken in by marketing.

Going to try and maintain some type of a budget. May be pulled off course a wee bit but. Still got a week to plan so any ideas happily accepted.

  • Love the plan for next week EWO and I agree, take them out of the packets and she'll never notice the difference.

I'm still thinking about today's food. Just taken a large pizza out of the freezer for me and DD to eat later. I really need to empty the freezer so think its going to be mish mash meals for the next few days.

  • That sounds like a decent menu and I shouldn't think your sister will complain at all. I think many people get sucked into being brand snobs and its easily done.

  • I quite like mush mash weeks. I'm trying not to throw stuff away( not just for financial purposes but because I shocked how wasteful I had become) need to decide with a full cauliflower. No cheese in so not a cauliflower cheese unfortunately. Might do it in some type of white sauce and breadcrumbs on top!! Or a soup ( going to look like veg soup if not careful), oh I don't know - google might help.
Desperate do you want to swap a pizza for a cauliflower?

Not stalking you honest, it was just really nice to have some support today. Checked out your posts (which er...sounds like stalking), really impressed, you're doing so well. In 2007, I was in 38k debt and through the support of people like you, I climbed out of it. As you know I have fallen back slightly :(
