What does dress your age really mean????

I did wear purple dr martens all through my teens though. That was my super rebel phase....
I've had my purple Doc Martens (and lots of other pairs) for years and still wear them - and I'm approaching the six-oh later this year.
Didn't realise it meant I was a rebel.
I wear them 'cos they're really comfy.0 -
My winter footwear is all sorts of boots without heels.
I haven't worn anything with heels since somewhere in the 80's.
I can barely walk in heels.
In the summer I'm wearing low heeled sandals.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I think that's a bit harsh.
As women we have a much wider variety of styles & types of clothes available to us than men have. But there is an age appropriate rule that's not always applied by the wearer.
I have a beige cardi but in no way did I feel the OP was referring to me when she said beige cardi brigade. Mine is a trendy chunky Arran style one that looks great with skinny jeans & a cami/vest/T.
Anyway there are "rules" about what's ok at what age.
I agree, I don't think this thread was started with the main aim to criticise other women.
I too have some cardi's, my fave is a cream and black striped long cardi, abit like a chunky Arran one in style, but I love it cause it's cozy and covers my bum! :rotfl:
So while I don't think there's a particular age for cardi's (I'm sure I had them in my twenties too?!), I do get what the OP was trying to say.0 -
Another big fan of docs here! Infact, in winter I wear almost nothing but boots....I have quite a collection! I still have my battered old docs from years back, and I won't be parted from my Ugg boots....*waits for gasps!*0

Ditto, I have numerous cardigans, in every colour imaginable, including beige
I guess I must live up to my (user)name in that I have clothes for every style and occasion so it's extremely dependant upon my mood and where I'm going and who with as to what I wear“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Ok, in light of how the conversation has progressed it stirred some memories of my attire
late teens/early 20's (science under-grad): Doc Martens, tights (black or dark) sometimes with socks too, sometimes cycling shorts but more often denim shorts, striped t-shirt/hippy top/flowery top/dress with it. Hair was long, often with a hairband/clips/scarf thing. I sometimes wore jeans instead of the tights/shorts combo. I remember thinking my bum was huge but I think that was my imagination really as I was an 8-10!.
Late twenties (scientist): more muted, still liked flowery things but shoes were more chunky black/coloured ones, more jeans, more reserved tops- in that instead of being flowery/floaty, they had flowers or designs on a more t-shirt style. Lab coat over the top a lot of the time.
Thirties (money adviser, pregnant): more simple clothes for work, dark bottoms, nice shirt or top, still chunky shoes, during pregnancy I went for over the bump trousers/jeans and luckily those floaty (fitted at the top then out) tops came in fashion!
Thirties (now): managed to get back down to a reasonable size 12 (well 10-12 as mum buys me 10 and it fits!), I wear a lot of denim, but different styles, fitted t-shirts, fitted casual shirts, cardigans (yes cardigans, but in all sorts of shades and styles!), I love my converse but also quirky coloured shoes, pumps, trainers, all sorts. Trying to wear more dresses, up here it's often cold so leggins or tights often needed under, but if warm would wear without! Not so many formal occasions but for last wedding I was at I wore a lovely black and cream dress, patent pumps, black waterfall cardi, red scarf (to pick out little bits of red in the dress). If anything my bum is thinner now, but I do have a slight belly, so dress to not enhance that lol!
Phew, that was fun.....I wonder if I AM going full circle with the dresses lol, and I was eyeing up Docs the other day!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I just don't get Uggs, cannot see the attraction to them at all.....they look like slipper boots to me. That said, as someone else pointed out, what a dull world if we all liked the same things........Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

But I cannot see them under the long stained evening dresses I often sport, No good for functions, fine for feeding chickens or swanning around the garden. I hitch them up a bit so the hem doesn't get too wet and muddy. So what if I have to wear a big coat over the top to keep warm, I'm still happy I dressed like an eccentric scarecrow!
, I wouldn't chose to impose that in a different setting.
You wear evening dresses to feed the chickens??? I find that quite delightfully eccentric if so.Val.0 -

I have always worn cardi's too, the only trend I see with me is that they are getting longer :rotfl:. Now that may be the fashion, or it may be me gradually hiding myself, not sure. Up here it can be windy/cold more than not, so they are a great extra layer cover up. I love the fine knit ones, my fave is an electric blue colour

I don't really do heels either, (have one pair made by Ecco), but I find wedge heels very comfortable (wedges not to be confused with wedgies!), if you need some height.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
