I didn't know silvercar knew very much. Treat whatever she says with caution.
People who talk about themselves in the third person make NDG nervous.vivatifosi wrote: »When I try to explain the NPT to DH he frowns, looks confused and then gives me a 'does not compute' look. I still view myself as Georgian, but living abroad, and as such I still speak Georgian at home (and occasionally at work).
What about your children's language? Do they speak all 3, and which is their strongest?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Also just noticed that although I did the bespoke £5 for £10 Amazon voucher offer 5x I completely missed the M&S reloadI think....0

Mmm, chocolate. All chocolate. My favourite is milk chocolate. Galaxy with nothing added or Aldi do a gorgeous version of whole nut with the perfect nut: chocolate ratio.
But I'm not that fussy . Chocolate orange, star bar, milky way, creme eggs all of 'em. Very big kidEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Recently chocolate has started giving me acid reflux and general feelings of being unwell.... could be overload of cheapo chocolate. Not tried any branded chocolate for months.0

Well, I don't like champagne. I also prefer chocolate to be non-alcoholic. But the last time I had a champagne truffle I liked it, which suggests it might well be disappointing to people who do like champagne.
I've never tried champagne truffles - I don't like chocolate, don't really see the point of it. I like the drink, though!Oooh, is this turning into another "NP question" like mushrooms and Jewishness?
White chocolate: no
Milk chocolate: yes
Dark chocolate: only if sweet rather than bitter
Chocolate oranges: dark definitely preferred
For me - no, no, no and no.........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
In the last 2 days, I've suddenly expanded. Hugely.
Not, as one might expect, in the abdomen - higher up. I'm going to need an entire set of new bras, as suddenly they're all too small.
OH thinks it's interesting, but as they are also hormonally sore, he won't benefit much at the moment....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Generaly found that there's only two takes on chocolate. Like it , or indifferent. Very few people I think really loathe or are repulsed by it.
I always thought my liking for dark chocolate was bit unusual. Slightly relieved it's fairly prevalent in this (admittedly disparate) group.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I remember years ago, Cadbury Bourneville bars - Iiside the wrapper there were two bars, both identical in shape/size/chunks, but one bar was thinner than the other; they were stacked on top of each other.0

I think it might have cost 14-15p .... equivalent to £1-2 today. I remember it was the highlight of my day/holiday. Probably bought three over the week.
Trying to find the wrapper, my memory of price might be wrong. A bar seems to have been 5p at the time.
PN we are not generations apart in age. There weren't, by and large, too many differences in branded goods between central Scotland and the south of England at that time, I think.
You may recall
NSM cigarettes
Ghost brand cigarettes (eg Nerit)
Coffeee and Chicory brands during the big shortage years
Austrian wine before the scandal.
These aren't all amazingly well covered by the internet, which reminds me of its liimitations. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

No
Yes - hideous stuff. Camp coffee ... hated that.
We didn't have wine, no idea where wine comes from even now (didn't know Austria had it)
I also remember the shortages for:
- butter; not sure if we ever had it, we always had marg and still do
- spuds; chips went up to 15p a bag and so we stopped buying chip shop chips and made parsnip chips at home
- sugar
- petrol rationing books distributed
- those daily power cuts and cutting the little table out from the local paper that told you when you power cuts were going to be ... and having toast for tea, cooked with a toasting fork over the fire, on the days when it was at tea-time0
