Well, word of warning ... you can't buy a lump of frozen pastry and some sausages and make sausage rolls. I tried this last Xmas and it worked.... with Jus-Rol.

What took me by surprise was the Lidl packet that said "roll out ....." no - I don't have a rolling pin. Didn't have to roll out the Jus-Rol packet.

So, I put it between two A4 sized cutting mats and squashed it flat until it was about the size of the cutting mats...... and that'll do. De-skinned the sausages and added some herbs, pepper, salt and lightly roasted red onion bits....

Rolled it all up, it was too long to fit on the baking tray, so I cut it in half.

Whole thing's too fat, pastry's too thick... but, what the heck, it'll have to do.

Do you have a round bottle of olive oil? (I am guessing no? And am certain the bottle of wine will be no. I've used both as emergency rolling pins.

    Can of coke?

    (iPad changes coke to come...interesting!)

No, I had nothing. If I did it again I'd cut the pastry in half and squish down half of it .... but I'd already started and opened it all .... so I had to continue with what I was doing, even though I knew it was wrong :)

It's like a fat sausage en croute :)

And now fat's coming out ... and I'm wondering if one sheet of foil is enough as the tray it's on is a pizza tray so has big holes in it to make the base crisp .... so I'm having to watch in case the foil leaks and it drips ... I'll have to have a rethink and use another tray if that happens. Both my baking trays are pizza trrays - I line them with foil.

What I've got, that isn't in a box/wrapped up .... is mostly suitable for cooking "food for one", so when I do something bigger I suddenly hit "size of dish -v- size of food" issues.

I'll serve one chunk (there are two chunks as I had to cut it in half) .... with beans in a bowl.

Lemonjelly, I have the same opinion as silvercar.

I bought a heart just like that, plain with a leather thong from the Swarovski shop for our god daughter, for when she gets older. Admittedly, because I would wear it.

I have no glasses. In future I'll just use half the pastry .... I might not do this again for another 1-2 years.

I should take a photo of it cooking .... as I can do that now.

The electric people still haven't been ( we are 'priority).

I bought another electric heater today.

I phoned them and told them if they don't come by Friday morning I'm gonna plug it in and take this postcode DOWN......(menacing laugh)

Just noticed the oven filling with smoke... opened the door and it all came out.

The oil had spilt and hit the bottom of the oven, where it was smoking.... so had to take them out of the oven now ......

Well, they're cooked and tasty .... but the room reeks of burning oil, so freezing again now as I have the door open to get the smell out

Question - mainly for the nice ladies, but nice men feel free to contribute.

    Swarovski Crystal. Nice? Or tacky?
Would a nice (I think, but remember the gender...:o) small swarovski jewellry item make a good gift? It is a bit more expensive than I first thought, but I wanted to get a couple of people something extra nice this year after they've done good stuff for me. But I don't want to get them tacky stuff.

Planning/thinking necklaces. Silver. I know friends like crystal stuff, & I saw them in a shop & their reflective-ness/responsiveness to light really caught my attention (& is reflected in the gift choice if that makes sense?)

Swarovski crystals can be lovely, or can be waaaay too much (for my taste, that is). I'm sorry to say I'm bad at assessing jewellery from any point of view but my own - and for my particular taste, some of their crystals are lovely, some are just tacky. I've used them in jewellery before, stuff I've made. Shall I photograph some?

I tend to prefer the smaller and / or simpler ones - of the two you posted, I like that heart, and thing the ball's a bit - not for me.
