If you'd gone out .... what'd have happened to the kid? He didn't know you'd be around etc .... kid could have got into all sorts of mischief and trouble being left alone in a strange, old house, with lots of land/outbuildings... and dogs potentially sitting around.

He brought an ( uncharged ) Nintendo and knew we had tv. Indeed for a portion of the day child did sit alone watching citv. Not what I normally like to do for visiting kids but .....well, I was busy ( we were painting an exterior wall). He, and child, were unglazed by dogs and child was slightly scoffing when I suggested they didn't walk through dogs to find me 'I'm not scared of dogs though' 'that's good, but never go near dogs when their owner tells you not to, its for a good reason'......I actually do think my dogs would be ok with that child, but.....I wouldn't risk it.....(some children I'm braver with...... But.....I always want to be in close eye /ear shot so I know what's happening...proportionate to age......I mean never mind the kids...what about the safety of my animals!)

Yeah, you can always have another kid ... you can't replace that unconditional love from a dog :P

    Bit annoyed.

...child told me that because they had a. Slept in and b. run out of milk they had had neither breakfast nor lunch but might be having a macdonalds for supper as a treat ( mum is away ). Obviously I fed the child ...and the father. But felt the list of cross ness mounting. Child fell on a banana while I made sandwiches.

Seriously. He's a good decorater, maybe it's just a really bad day and we all have them? Kid was cool....( I wanted to keep it). If this kid went to a school that gave opportunity and scope I think it could be what ever it wanted to be.

Some people are good at picking up temporary extra responsibilities on top of what they usually do. Some people aren't. Your decorator is one of the people who isn't. I'm sure everything will be fine when the mum returns from wherever she's gone. I'm sure it would end up being fine if this man ended up as a single dad and had to get used to managing on his own. But as it is, he found himself trying to do too many things at once by himself when he's used to having his wife around to do the bits that are usually her share.
The important thing now is that HE has it and that you know He has it I think.

Most importantly they have you, and your father and family. And know what a woman your mother was through collective memory to fill in gaps where theirs is too young.

My love to you always, but especially today.

Thank you. You say just the right thing, as always. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I think I am mourning the family/parents I wish I'd had .... if that makes sense. We never communicated; dad was awkward and adamant and fiercly controlling. There was never guidance/help/assistance - more just telling you what you should do, then being disappointed if you didn't/hadn't done what he deemed you should have done.

I had a life of disappointing them ... and not once has anybody in our family ever said "I love you".

So, it's an odd mixture of mourning the passing .... and mourning what could have been and all the regrets etc that come with that.

Oh Pastures. That is so very hard. It's acknowledged by people that work with these things to be harder when there are feelings like those you describe, too. Grief is more, well, straightforward, when the relationship was good and close and uncomplicated. <hugs>

He said he'd pay for my light. That's almost half a days work. Why do I feel about that?

11th is on, we're not, 12 are performing, and everyone's been perfect.

    I've never been this nervous!

Have fun CK! We got our tickets for the grown-up Eurovision this week. Going to the jury final again as it is virtually impossible to get them for the biggie.

They were sold out within 4 hours.

2014 is going to be the first time in 10 years I watch a Eurovision production on a TV screen.

8 in 11 years with Russia, and one win. All I want is to place high, but part of me really wants to make this 2-2 with Giga Kukhianidze (who is the best songwriter I ever met, and songwriter for Georgia 6 of 7 times)

    Whoever wins tonight, deserves it!
