Well done. I've just been even more MSE.

Tried on a dress a month or so ago and decided not to buy yet another thing to slim down into. Have had a concerted month of effort to slim down before something I'll see a lot of people from my past at (+ work Christmas do) so thought I'd see if I can buy online. Apparently the 2 shops this dress is still available at (it's in the sale sections) do not have branches in the major city I will be in at some point next week.

Just saved myself the best part of £40!

Edit: might as well share a link http://www.whitestuff.com/doll-dress-prod401637_dk_aubgne/

That looks very nice. You would look gorgeous in it. Can you buy online?

It's out of stock in my size :)
For dresses I'd have to start by looking at size 14. For jeans I look at 10/12 or Age 11-13.

Reasons I find it impossible to buy clothes are:
    - petite size
    - top heavy

    Then stuff doesn't fit/suit me.....

Once upon a time somebody suggested we go out to a club and I said "nothing to wear - but you're welcome to come and see what I've got to see".... so she did. And she said "you've got nothing to wear".

So then it was decided that we'd go shopping to find/buy me something to wear. I warned her: nothing fits me or suits me.....

We went shopping .... she was selecting stuff and sending me off to try it on; nothing fitted. She was selecting stuff excitedly, then holding it up against me and saying "Oh ..." before putting it back on the rack.

At the end she said "You're right... things don't fit or suit you do they"

They have 1 x size 14 online at House of Fraser... but no store anywhere handy. If there was a White Stuff shop where I was looking I would have bought it in a 12 and just taken it back if I couldn't get into it. It's quite a forgiving dress size wise. Have work to do this weekend and a busy week next week, so don't want to go to nearest big town this weekend.

Thank you. The colour definitely suited me (the pics online are a bit rubbish).
Shut up... she just saved £40. If she buys it now, probably plus some P&P, she'd also need to spend more money going out somewhere that it can be worn!

    :)

Too right, not shelling out for postage. Can't quite remember what size it was I tried on so a fair chance it would have to go back anyway. Have places I could wear next week (and would probably end up wearing to work), but can't get it before those events.
    Nevermind.

Surely it would make more sense just to give a donation and for them to do centralised in bulk purchasing of close to date stuff from the supermarkets/suppliers?

I guess so but then that adds a layer of organisation/ bureaucracy? Collecting in stores also gives more visibility?

No. It's all about psychology. People feel they've actually done something if they hold a can of soup in their hands. More likely to impulse buy and donate, than to stop and give money.

What PN says. Some people like giving money because it's quick and easy, you can do it online, and you know the organisation gets max flexibility in what they do with it. Other people like holding a can in their hands in the way PN describes. The charity knows that the more ways of donating are available, the more they'll get in total to give away to the people who need it.

It's like sponsored runs and parachute jumps etc. It would be much more effective if everybody just gave the money to the charity without all the faffing about doing the sponsored event, but most people don't, so the sponsored event brings in money that wouldn't otherwise get donated.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

When I am more affluent than right now, I get a full carrier bag or two for the foodbank collectors. By comparison, I never give cash to charity, whether it's to tin shakers, or telly appeals, nothing.

Not my kind of book, but I have a good idea what other things people like. A lot of people stick with Scandinavian crime. Jo Nesbo is the most popular to move on to, though a lot say that it is more graphic. Some like well written Brit crime like Peter James, who bases his detective in Brighton.

They don't want close to date stuff, they want long life.

It makes interesting shopping, trying to maximise what you can buy for your fixed spend. Who would hav thought value range broken mandarin segments existed.
