Just back from the shops, good haul except I forgot sausages and spuds because Lidl was bunged up with very slow moving shuffling people getting in the way .... so it put me off my route.

Bought loads of treats. Spent £11 in total. £3 of that was treats: mini cheesecakes, bag of fake-mini-snickers bars, bag of jelly babies.

Stocked up on the baguettes and baked beans .... got 15 eggs. Cheese is getting harder to find at about £5/Kg, no cheddar at that price so I had to buy red leicester (£5.16).

Tesco had a huge block of a branded Seriously Strong mature cheddar, £5.45/Kg, but the block cost £14, so I didn't get that.

Had been reminded of Dairylea triangles, so checked the price in Mr T - nearly £9/Kg, so I didn't get those, but in Lidl found some similar things cheaper.... thing was, while in Mr T I'd intended to look for "Dairylea and Tuc biscuits", so I've now got Llidl triangles and no Tucs.

Wanted a fruit/veg shop and butcher locally, so kept an eye out on my route home.... fruit/veg shop closed (for the day?), butcher closed for the day. It seems all these shops we're supposed to be using open 9-3.... then they wonder why we don't go. [1] no parking [2] you're not open.

If you went to the fresh cheese counter of Tesco, you could buy just the amount you needed. So if it was more than £5/kg you may still be spending less rather than buying more and wasting some.

In my Tesco store today they had food bank volunteers. I noticed that about 60% of shoppers were buying stuff for the foodbank. I do hope that Tesco are putting stuff their way as they are making a profit on everything their shoppers are donating.

I never go to the fresh counters, I always assume as they're serving you it's got to be more expensive than the same stuff in a packet.

There was something clogging up the entrance, with some old people faffing about .... I was trying to negotiate getting into the store with people going in all directions and the alarm going off behind me at the entrance. I just wanted to get clear of the melee.

Not necessarily so. I buy things like undyed smoked haddock from the fresh fish counter at Tesco. It's considerably cheaper and nicer than the packaged stuff!

    Tesco Finest

    Counter - £13 kg
    Packaged - £19 kg

Well, I don't even know what that is.

I'm talking about "the cheapest cheddar". No other crieria. Is it cheddar? How much is it?

I did try to look at deli prices the other week and they don't show them on mysupermarket ... can't remember what I was looking for, but I know it wasn't showing up.

If you can face the ready grated stuff it is about 2.48 for 500g at Tesco - mild though not mature.
    I think....

They were doing it in my Tesco this morning too.
Tesco are topping up what is given by 30% - from Trussell Trust website
"As well as hosting the collection, Tesco will also 'top-up' your food donations by 30%, making your gift go even further."

I've had that before - and it's in Lidl too - but once you've opened the bag it can go green quite quick. It's bizarre. At least with blocks of cheese I can leave them weeks without worrying.
