    Soviet mode comes in here.

The Russian empire invaded Belarus and Mongolia, but as far as I'm aware, never the British Empire?

Also, with Britains historic links with Sweden and Catholicism (Vatican), this may be the case too?

ETA: Didnt read page 436 before posting, and I didn't dissect this; it was one of the Georgian delegations, with a degree in European History.

I'm on page 219. Too many pages to flick through otherwise. I recommend resetting posts per page ;)

The white bits on the map are (allegedly) the only countries in the world that Great Britain has not invaded. :D

I did read some time back that at one point you could start travelling from a point in Burma 60 miles from the pacific and walk westward; you could cross Asia and then the entire length of Africa down to the Southern Ocean without leaving British-ruled land.

Okay apart from Iran which you could sidestep by crossing the straits to places like Oman.

    Happy Chanukah!

Hmm....... fried food including doughnuts? Is this actually a Scottish celebration I've forgotten about?

I see the logo at the top of the page has changed to read Happy Chanukah. :)

A lot of "thanksgivinukah" slogans around. doesn't quite work.

    Viva/doozer/others, thanks for the feedback.
She wears black, a lot. Loves colour though (current fave appears to be purple(!) I think? Wears a lot of colours - light blues, salmons, peachy pinks etc in summer. Occasional white/cream colour outfit.

Viva, I picked out the test-card style one as she loves kids tv (dangermouse, postman pat, roary etc...) But I take your point.

Like I say, thanks to everyone, as I'm struggling to get the right one, so input from other people really does help.

I'd like to help but as I've mentioned before I have a gap in my head where the gift-choosing part of the brain's supposed to be!

That's one of those bizarre American things isn't it. They're as au fait with a whole turkey deep fryer as Brits are with a chip pan.

I think they tend to rig something up DIY style in the yard.

I suspect that it's been done using a rather loose definition of "invade" that includes "be part of an alliance liberating it from an occupying enemy power". Then you can class the Allies kicking the Germans out of Norway in WWII as "Britain invading Norway". I'm not sure most of the Norwegians perceived it that way at the time, though.

I would love to help, but am useless at that kind of thing, I'm afraid.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A question for any plant-growing NP who happen to know (lir?, jelly?)...

I have a couple of calamondins in my conservatory. The fruit stays on them for ages. It looks quite pretty, but what I like best about them is the scent when they flower. So, my question is, will removing the fruit make them flower again sooner, or not make any difference?

    Thanks.
