Wow that is beautiful.
(Gulp at the price per metre though  )
Shhh, now PN will freak.
Its cheaper than double glazing for a historic window, proper heavy curtaining, and will have some sort of pay back in heat loss.
I had saved on the other mac outer a brilliant heat loss image of double glazing compared to properly interlined curtains in old houses. I think curtains are certainly, for us a better investment than triple glazing would be on a modern home and probably better than double glazing in this one. On the double glazed windows they are probably not as arguable as a valuable thing, as the extra heat saving diminishes after the first layer of glazing is added. But every bit helps, right?0 -

This statement is so lacking in confidence. Imagine John Lewis trying to sell you a dishwasher/ TV/ ipad and saying its best to buy two so you have a back up!

He is not installing our heating. He is nothing to do with OUR heating. But advising on the situation now. He says on 'substantial' properties exactly what I said, two sources is better than one big one.
We do have two vacuums so (an upstairs and down stairs) which works well when one is being repaired or serviced (as is about to happen) and the kitchen design people told me it was beyond the pale not to have two diswashers now (though I don't plan to have two) . Though again, not for that reason, bet its handy though.
And every one is told all the time to back up their PC/laptop files! For exactly the reason.
In the same vein, the architect had doozer put down spare ducts...'what for' I asked? Does this mean you haven't planned well, I joked, do you think you have forgotten something? The architect said, a spare duct is never a bad idea. We put spare ducts in every hole we dig now.....across fence lines etc..
Spare duct is potentially saving us a lot of money now......because of heating guy mark one.
Edit....one of the plus sides of all this last summer is I have been able to talk peoe over the phone through adding pressure to their systems, depressurising their systems, and various other things to check. These are has systems, but the plumbing seems to be the same.....non resident parent has been having boiler issues for which various solutions were suggested totalling about four hundred quid, I spoke to the gas guy over the phone and suggested a solution we'd tried here which is going to cost 72. He said...I'd not thought of that, its simple but should be perfect. Harumph. Wish it had been here!0 -
That bread and milk I ran out of a few days ago .... I might get round to going out for those tomorrow - although I've decided it's muffins this time, not bread. I sometimes have bread, sometimes muffins, sometimes crumpets. A toasted muffin is so much more enjoyable than a piece of toast.0

Grr... Angry with myself. I saw a story on my newspaper website that was horrible. Someone made a really nasty comment that someone agreed with by clicking an I agree button. I clicked on the hyperlink to see who on earth would agree with something so vile without realising that what I was doing was clicking the agree button (it was a hyperlink within a button). I've looked everywhere on the website to retract and can't. I don't really wish to be associated with opinions that I find repugnant, but don't know what to do. We may have possibly had a third child if the other 2 were girls. I was never keen on having another, but DH did want 3 at some point and if the first 2 were girls I may have felt obliged to go for a third. Spreading the first 2 out was deliberate in that it meant we were more likely to agree that 2 was enough.
We could never have afforded a 3rd as I couldn't have worked to the standard I needed to and had the energy to parent in the way I would have wanted to. For us, me not working was never an option as it we have always been SE...I really missed out on maternity leave too as never really had any.
Stopped work when I went into labour and was back at it baby in papoose after 7 days with son and 2 weeks after DD. Wasn't much different to being at home though I do remember having to do some machining with DD strapped to my front and it wasn't that comfortable....she just slept peacefully.
I couldn't have coped with a 3rd at all..in fact maybe I am a lightweight as 2 wrung it out of me for years....only in the past 5 years do I feel that some of 'me' has come back. The work and children were all-consuming and never left much energy for leisure type things.lostinrates wrote: »Bugslet, haven't got book in but have remembered name......I think..prestigious textiles lands end. Nearest to life I can find on google image, but nothing like the depth of it. Its a velvet, and looks like a painting. The yellow tone is more vibrant. And the ...orange just peeping at the edges is more prominent than they suggest, its quite a key element.
I'm not sure what sort of quantity I'll need, I haven't looked at the width of it, I like lots of fabric, but the pattern might look odd with too much repeat. I'll see when head is fresher hopefully.
They have some really nice things, beautiful art in textile. Nature I have loved and next to nature Art........in textiles. Sorry landor, I strove with someone too. But I was thinking that line with excitement looking through the books of this company at some of their florals.
It's lovely. Really nice.
You could do a half width on the outside edge and the seam would sit inside a fold most of the time.
What drop do you need?
In John Lewis they do a border at the top in a plain fabric and then start the printed drop a couple of feet down. It's also common to do that of you have some vintage fabric so you buy cheapy eyelet curtains, chop off the bulk and attach your vintage fabric to it as the main curtain.
Hard to see the colours but choose your favourite colour and match it up to plain velvet of the same quality and use that to extend the drop but have it across the top up near the ceiling?
Ooops just seen you have enough drop.
The seam won't notice when they are up with enough folds.lostinrates wrote: »Yes, its the with that concerns me. I've seen a drop, that looks fab, but I cannot imagine it seamed. For width. I think 135 is pushing it for width, it would do but would look stingy, but doubling would be too much I think, especially given the canvas type nature of the pattern. You'd want to actually see it.

Thanks silver. I found an abuse button and said that the statement was nasty and that I'd thanked inadvertently. Have asked for my thanks to be removed as well as suggesting that they look at the comment.
If that doesn't work, then I will post as suggested. I'd rather keep my head below the parapet initially, as I know that posting contrarily will dump bile on my head. In spite of my posting here, I tend to keep a low profile on the net: no facebook, never use my twitter account, only minimal use of linkedin. Can't believe what I've done. There's no easy way out of my stupidity, sadly. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
