When I used to teach evening classes I saw that many people saw a social dimension to the classes as they formed a mutual support group to get through the course. This was always encouraged as mutual support makes successful completion more likely.
Oh definitely. The social element is good for motivation, and the discussion of course content is useful too. My sixth-formers are always surprised when I say I don't mind them helping each other with their work, as long as what they're doing is "explaining how" rather than "doing for". I have to get them to see that the person doing the helping is getting explaining practice that they can't really get any other way, and certainly not by endlessly writing muddled answers to "explain" type questions and getting them back marked the following week. And of course, it's much easier for them to do that with each other if they're making friends as they go along.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I've a sneaking suspicion that a lot of these discussion groups would think quite highly of someone who
a) contributed little and rarely
b) listened hard, nodded sagely and made affirmative noises every now and then.
c) chuckled and laughed when everybody else did
and mos def
d) bought their round
Doozergirl and JohnnyBravo (and I'm sure , many others) would know what I mean when I say that Silent Bob has this sorted!:beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
d) bought their round
These types drink at twice the speed (per round) as me, plus their drink is usually 2x the size of mine. Ergo, instead of me squeezing a half out to last an hour, these alcoholics are sinking a pint in 30 minutes!
I think there'd be less drunks about if everybody bought their own drinks, at their own pace. Too many people knocking them back quickly as it's the next round.0 -
Unpleasant, but yes, I can believe in a deliberate strategy like that. However, would they do that to a property that had people living in it at the time? Or find a property that was temporarily empty and do it there? I don't live anywhere near a place where it has happened, so I don't know about these things.
Lived in no, empty yes - though I do know of a single mother, left a widow. who was threatened and I have been personally threatened over a planning matter.
(How would I feel if I woke up and found there had been an "accident" - that sort of thing).
Very much an own goal for the threatener, as it made me 100 times more determined to resist what was being proposed.
It is silly really, as there could have been a Mary_Parker_Follett solution to the situation.

Unfortunately the UK is somewhat wedded to its Adversarial_system
BTW it you right click a photo you can most probably link through to its source and read the underlying context.0 -

In countries I've been in which are rather more civilized about their drinking, the norm is to run a tab and split it at the end.
It doesn't get you round the problem of paying someone else's more expensive bar bill but it does mean you can drink at your own pace.0 -

I always feel uncomfortable about meeting people for discussions! I may not come over like it on here but I am painfully shy and self conscious.
I always hated the group things we did at the therapy groups for the boys where you have to introduce yourself, I never knew what to say and by the time it got to me, I would have completely worked myself up and would stutter my way through a very boring and not very informative introduction of myself.
Been away for the weekend as it was the end of season party at the holiday park where my parents have a static caravan, good night slightly marred by dad having a fall in the club house.
And eeek! That purple house! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
