I think my body is unable to tell that it's actually freezing, as opposed to just a bit nippy. Can't feel my feet and last night I lost half a leg. So maybe I need to buy a good thermometer so I can see when it's actually cold and not "just me" or just a bit nippy.

That doesn't sound like a fantastic symptom TBH. Worth taking to the GP perhaps..? Especially given that you're a smoker so your blood circulation mightn't be all it could be.

You don't think simply reminding the tenants (of whatever age) that the property is being 'managed' is more likely to make them think about their treatment of it? A bit like making sure that when they move in everything looks well cared for is likely to make people think that the property should be cared for whereas if they move in and the d!cor and maintenance are poor I would have thought tenants were less likely to be so concerned about caring for things themselves.

Tbh I think that LLs should accept the fact that one of the business risks of renting a house out to tenants is that the tenants may not have the same opinion as the LL as to the 'correct' treatment of the property and how its innards should be looked after. To my mind the correct way to manage that risk is to be picky about who you rent to in the first place, to charge an appropriate amount of rent and to take an appropriate security deposit, not to pop round to have a look at where they're hanging their washing.

I think too many LLs, especially those who have lived in the house they are now renting out, find it difficult to 'let go' and accept that the house is now their investment property, not their home that someone else is borrowing for a bit.

Now it has got cold we are getting horrendous condensation on the windows in our bedroom. It's quite boring having to wipe it all up every morning (although being a good tenant I do this...) - is there any way, short of heating the window panes? My current best plan is to buy hundreds of pairs of shoes so that we get loads of those little sachets of dehydrating crystals that you always find in shoeboxes and putting a big pile of them in the bedroom but I'm worried this is not a practical solution.

A closet camel is exactly that. A bucket full of silica beads with a place for the water to go. They're not expensive from memory. A tenner perhaps?

Keep the windows open? How do you dry the clothes? Do the bathroom and kitchen extractors work properly?

You could get a dehumidifier from Argos but they are not that cheap to run.

How about complaining to the landlord?
    I think....

Just buy a small dehumidifier; spend about £100 and it'll last you years.

Put one of these on the windowsill.

£4.99 from Halfords. I think they also sell them in Morrisons.
