Yes. When I was more liberal I took the time to judge each person on their merits - now I am quite happy to take a short cut based on probability...it's not fair but then nor is life.
In my view any landlord who would worry about whether 'young people' were going to damage the house to the point that they felt the need to go and inspect the inside of the house would be better off either renting to people who were not 'young' or not being a landlord at all.0 -

I wonder if you'd feel quite the same way if, if a few years time, someone announced to you that a mixed-race black-white young adult was more likely to be involved in drug-dealing than a white young person, or one of Chinese ethnic origin? And treat the young adult according to that perception?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

It's something I regularly have problems with when I am inspected.0 -

You don't think simply reminding the tenants (of whatever age) that the property is being 'managed' is more likely to make them think about their treatment of it? A bit like making sure that when they move in everything looks well cared for is likely to make people think that the property should be cared for whereas if they move in and the d!cor and maintenance are poor I would have thought tenants were less likely to be so concerned about caring for things themselves.I think....0 -

If a police force was trying to stop young people stabbing other young people to death and the statistics showed that certain identifiable characteristics resulted in an increased likelihood that the person would be carrying a knife I would rather the police adjusted their behaviour on that basis and saved lives than adopted a strictly neutral policy and ended up with more dead teenagers.
Life is not fair.I think....0 -
A moral conundrum for the nice people.
As I said earlier, I was at the school fete today. The school is for children between the ages of 4.5 and 12. In between the bands that were on they had some pop music playing, in the course of 3 songs the words/phrases, "sl u t", "o ral se x" and "motherf c uker" were pretty clearly heard along with the normal misogynistic crap that goes along with music of that sort.
Should I go up to the school to complain or do I accept that in the C21st my kids should expect to have words like that in the music they hear in school?0 -

Complain. That's not exactly "Listen with Mother" fare, is it?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I agree.
As we all know I am far from a prude.. But I am fairly prudish for under age things. Age limits exist for a reason.
Similarly, and not totally unrelatedly tbh. personally, I'd refer the little girl in the take awayshop for someone whose job it is to make the call, because I am not qualified to do so and that's why we have a public sector involved in that sort of stuff.0 -
