On another forum I frequent, which is much smaller than this, the software auto-changes any references to Christmas or XMAS or any other permutation which the members try to come up with to get past the software / moderators, to something else e.g. Winterval or Natalis Invicti. It's a long-standing forum joke; nothing to do with religion or anything, but just a light-hearted demonstration against the early commercialisation of Christmas
The auto-correct gets switched off on 1 December.
Suppose your kid was called Christmas? :eek:0 -
If you had been a little older, although I don't know the length of the lease left...

The grounds for Harvest House are absolutely gorgeous, the building is gorgeous and I would love to live there.
Just checked that one - it's £4000/year.0 -
New search criteria brings out a whole new bag of pickiness... well, it's not new, it's that my reservations over flats are being justified as I am rediscovering them.0

The number of times I have stood at the top of steps and looked down feeling a bit daunted and nervous when I'm alone I cannot tell you.
Have you considered one of these? http://www.ageuk.org.uk/buy/help-at-home/age-uk-personal-alarms/ You are obviously not in their normal age group, but you are on your own quite a lot and not that steady on your pins.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Nah, Once I'm down stairs I'm ok?..one doesn't NEED to come back up. Until recently if wobbly I came down on my bottom like a toddler. Now we have taken up the carpet but the odd tack still lurks,:D
Somedays I can run up and down the stairs like a mountain goat.:j:j0 -

There's a council estate with a bad name.
+10% is out of the question, the budget's £190-200k TOPS. No borrowing power whatsoever.
I've just done that 1/4 mile search then filtered out: retirement and it comes down to 5 - 4 if you exclude the starting property:
£153k mid-terrace shared ownership, allocated parking for one.
£199k older, mid terrace. Wrong side of the road and no offroad parking.
£190k old/done up, no parking, right on road, odd/small rooms
£200k on the bad council estate. It will also need a few thousand in some tweaks/potential issues/maintenace in the first year or so.
PN, I don't want to keep badgering you, and I don't want you to feel that you have to keep replying to these posts. OTOH, if it helps you to discuss things, I am sure that your friends on this thread would be delighted to help.
I think you can look at properties priced a bit higher than your top price. The owners may reduce the price or they may take an offer, particularly from someone who is as 'proceedable' as you. So, looking at top price +10% is reasonable.
As others have said, you seem to be a bit stuck, going round in circles. If properties that are suitable for you are too expensive in the areas you are looking in, then you'll have to bite the bullet and look in other areas or look at less suitable properties.
You might want to look at different criteria, for example:
Safety of the area
Parking
Value for money
Whether you can afford a two-bedroom property
How close the place is to your mother
How close it is to the sea
Availability of suitable work nearby / time + cost of travelling to work further away.
Whether it's an up-and-coming area
Advantages of a two bed property over one bed:
Probably better VFM
Room for you to have a jewellery making workshop
Probably more saleable
If all other sources of income dry up, you can take a lodger (although you would probably hate it)
One of the things you are really, really good at is sorting things out logically. So, perhaps you could make yourself some lists on a spreadsheet and try to be objective scoring the priorities and the alternatives. For example, being further from your mum = more time and cost spent going to visit her. On the other hand, your siblings have not made their lives revolve around your mum, so why should you? If you are the closest, you will end up being the one who has to dash over whenever there's a crisis. That's not really fair.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

As a woman, I can't imagine ever living somewhere quite so feminine. All those rolled towels, it looks a bit like a day spa. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Middle son's latest drum cover

Not using his new snare, he had to block record songs when James was home from uni, so the new snare will be appearing from Christmas onwards. He practiced with it for the first time yesterday, sounds absolutely amazing.

I love that song!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
