    Sadly, her operation was unsuccessful.

    My stepfather is bravely battling with his failing memory and couldn't even recall when the op was (yesterday) and from his call today I gather the following;
either the ducts are too damaged for the stent/s or too awkward to get at from going down the throat.
The surgical team will meet tomorrow and decide whether to cut + go under the ribs to do it or not.

The prognosis isn't good (if that is the right term) as if the stent can't repair the ducts then I guess she will have liver failure. I have no idea how long that takes.

@ 74 it is unlikely she would get a transplant as I would imagine they go to younger patients

They did insert a tube into the pancreas to drain away all the bile and she now feels absolutely dreadful.

We wont visit the hospital until we find out what happens tomorrow.

I am a bit shocked to be honest as she has always been incredibly fit and active, always slim, never smoked or drunk alcohol (odd glass of wine) and climbed mountains and did 30 mile hikes as her hobby until a year ago.

Her only weakness has been to suffer with colitis /IBS for many years and this disease is related to that.

I am not practised in having unwell family members and have always been so lucky in that no-one is ever really ill.
Sorry to hear that; I know how these things are suddenly thrust upon you and everything's upside down and never the same again .... always dealing with new sudden changes/information :(

My surviving parent has gone through a lot and always survives..... the one who went early was the youngest by 7 years, active and had lots of annoying niggles, but nothing major and WHAM!!

Sorry to hear that; hope they can do something to help her. My nan had the under-the-ribs op and it was good.
    That's the Scottish system.

Survey and valuation for mortgage purposes all in advance, and all online nowadays too.

Offers are binding, no gazumping, no gazundering, no fannying about with exchange and completion dates, you set an entry date and that's it.

I moved into my last house within 30 days of first viewing it.

My sis moved in in three weeks but she knows what she's doing!
Actually I don't worry about all of that - I'm a Bad Mother, though. I couldn't ever care less about all the boasting about children who were potty-trained 3 days after birth, or whatever, and playgrounds / arguments about working vs not working mothers, all the rest of it, just roll over me.

There's few things more judgmental or crusading than mothers of young children, on the whole, though!

You can do that here, if you are a get-on-with-it type, not in a chain.

When my Dad bought his Chambers building in 2004, it took 13 days from when he saw it to completion. But he's not the procrastinating type....
One of the weirder thngs about becoming a parent is when you realise how much of an expert everyone else is (or claims to be) about how to deal with kids. I never feel I'm an expert on such things, but the number of people with strong opinions about it is quite alarming. And they don't recognise they're just opinions either.:D

Do you talk your posts on here?

I am really sorry to hear about your mother's problems. Such a shame that the simple approach has not worked. I do hope that they persevere.

These days, 74 is no great age, and your mother sounds like she is much fitter than most people half her age. So, if it comes to it, perhaps they will consider a transplant.

Yes, I quite often talk my posts on here. At least, the longer ones. In fact, when I use the dictation software, I tend to Witter on for longer. The trouble is all the little mistakes, like that one. Also, when it goes wrong, it can go wrong in spectacular fashion, putting complete gobbledygook in the text, although all perfectly beautifully spelt, so is rather difficult to spot sometimes.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

And yet it all seems to come out perfectly GDB!

Seventy four really can be very young these days. My younger parent is in sixties and very old. The older one well into seventies, but much younger IYSWIM.

Thoughts & best wishes to fc & her mum!

GDB, what software do you use? I ask, as it is being considered at work (I'm a 1 man band, & have been told to investigate ways of doing more for less...) & this kind of software is the style of thing being suggested.

    Had a busy few days.
Went to see david Baddiel at the RSC. His Fame: Not The Musical is a very good show. Comedy with a philosophy behind it. Laughs with meaning. It explores the trappings & implications of fame/being famous. Definitely a worthwhile show. He's announced a few dates next year too. Highly recommended!

Then went to see Martin Shaw in 12 Angry Men. Great show. The film is definitely in my top 10 of all time. The play was very well done. there's a couple of bad/slipped american accents on occasion, but that's allowable.
The elderly bloke who supports Peter Fonda in the film was played by Robert Vaughn! Great show.

Last night was Portico Quartet. Interesting. Went with a friend who had never heard of them before but is a huge music fan. He was impressed. I really enjoyed them - first saw them 2 years ago supporting Penguin Cafe, and they were very jazzy, quite acoustic, & I really loved them. They've evolved to use a fair few bits of electronics in their live show, so it started off amazing, & I got really into it.
They did a couple of tracks with a vocalist. A quick google shows that they did 1 track on their last album with her. I felt the instrumental stuff was better, but hey, that's just me I suppose.

Today I went to have a closer look at an Eos. Liked what I saw. Need to book a test drive.

I also went test driving golf clubs for a potential christmas present. My clubs are (I learned this year) 23 years old! (the guy in the shop laughed when I told him!) I only play about 10 times a year, & repeatedly decline to justify upgrading myself, as I can't see the merit/justification in spending circa £200 on something for myself. However, as the offer has been made, & also tryong to take a friends advice that a present should be something you want, but wouldn't neccessarily buy yourself, then I thought I'd indulge...

  • I'm exhausted just reading that lot, LJ! Sounds as if you've been having a lot of fun, though.

had to take a couple of days to fit it all in!:D

Seriously, I do love live music/theatre/comedy, so when the chance arises, I'm off. Little happens in the summer, as most bands/people tend to play festivals & the like, so that results in an autumn rush! I've Son of Dave, Public Service Broadcasting & Ludovico Einaudi all in the next 2 weeks.:j

My kitchenaod is coming home tomorrow from repair (hardly been used resident parent beat it up then wouldn't let me arrange repair under warrantee because they wanted too but failed to sort it out, DH cracked last week and did it himself). I wasn't that bothered tbh as not felt much like cooking.

I feel all domestic though now its coming home and cannot decide what to mix in it first......
