At the weekend OH painted our bedroom window frame. When the undercoat dried it had some very cute cat paw prints in it.

Hope you didn't have lots of paint marks shaped like cute cat paw prints in a trail away from the window too, like they do on those Hammer Horror Detective movies - just follow the culprit!

No, thankfully. I feel like a fraud now. I'm getting twitter and facebook updates from the pop up restaurant. :o

I'm really impressed that you cook them, I'm not confident enough. I think probably because I don't really eat enough game to have an instinct as to when it's done.

I dislike pheasant. When we get it nowadays (and we get a lot of gifted pheasant) I just take out the breasts.

If I were less frustrated with big dog and her chicken killing tendencies I'd chuck the dogs the rest to play with and demolish in the garden.

Long life loaves. You buy them, their "sell by" date is 3-4 days in the future, then you should use them within 7 days as they stay fresh for 7 days beyond the "sell by" date.

And if you put them in the fridge, they keep a little longer too (though it does make them dry out a little).

It's hard to describe really as there's nothing really like it in the UK. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed and one death so far. Today looks set to be a really bad one with maximum temperatures of 35C and 60mph winds. Oh and there will be dry lightning strikes too so fresh fires will be starting at random and drizzle over the course of the last 24 hours wasn't enough to dampen the fires but hampered back burning (where the firies burn away vegetation ahead of the fire to try to cool it).

Hope it hasn't turned out to be a worst case scenario today :(
The fire front is now 190 miles across so about the distance from Herts to Manchester and burning at about 1000C. It sends burning embers up to 4 miles ahead of it creating 'spot fires' just to add to the chaos.

I just can't get my head around the scale of it. You're right, we have absolutely nothing like this in the UK. 190 miles
Many of the firefighters will have been up all night back burning and will now be trying to fight this huge fire directly. They are amazing people.

What heroes. Such a thankless task. Amazing indeed.

:rotfl::rotfl: We had those, loop the loop all over the house like a sanil trail. You could work out what they did all day by the muddy paw prints everywhere......even had a line along the top of the bath.

Oh dear...have you got a fluffy stick?

They are quite good for poking small mammals hiding behind immovable objects and don't hurt them. You prod them and get someone to catch as she runs out.

Is that another cat on the stick?

    I'll get my coat :o

Last coat of paint on for the night. Radiator feet painted in bed and now on bedside table while I get high on fumes.

    Probably not best idea.....

The house had been turned once already, its on a junction of 2 roads and someone had turned it to the other road in order to make the side the front and they then built a bungalow on some of the back garden. That was quite sensible - it still left them with 100 ft of back garden, which is the same of the road it was turned onto. Now the extension adds side and depth, so the footprint is a reasonable shape. Internally it was a bit of a mish mash anyway.

I don't mind adding footprint and carving up into something that makes sense or suits the owners better. For me, in this case, it's more the lack of character and architectural merit of what is left. £2million of bland exterior.
