Yup, there will always be other opportunities I guess
How long in the current one do you think? Also, keep meaning to ask...did you start the Architecture degree?
Please let me be out within a year. It seems like we're all tied to a place for some reason nearly all the time... children, then aging relatives...
Architecture degree, no (you remembered!). Over that summer I wasn't all that happy with DSs (lack of) progress in his new school. He had a week's activities at a local indie school and I decided, very quickly, that we needed to go down that route. Two weeks later, he was at his new school. Paying out for both wasn't going to be a sensible option and his future won, easily; it's the best decision I could have made.
I can wait.Maybe I'll go with one of the kids, I bet they'd love that!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

It's times like this I feel most frustrated with this blasted house. It's cr4p. It's ugly, it costs a fortune to heat and the neighbours are the sort to take photographs from their upstairs windows.
It looks lovely - I'm always, however, very suspicious of any house without indoor photos. I assume it's an absolute wreck (-:PasturesNew wrote: »Yesterday I cooked my herb/onion yorkshire and beans .... and today it still smells of it ...... so I made another. Everything smells at the moment. The nearby Whitecross Street Market during the day means I have to take a detour, as all the cooking in the open there is absolutely bleurgh....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
One of my colleagues is pregnant - her young son guessed before 12 weeks! (kept looking at the bump, then started talking to it)
Isaac does seem to be wondering why I'm so tired, and turning green a lot. No bump or anything yet, though! So do I. I even bought some skiwear last year as I was planning on going to Iceland (country, not the supermarket) as a getting-a-job present to myself. I chickened out of going abroad to a non-English speaking country on my own though (and figured it would be much nicer to share the experience). And the single supplements were quite substantial.
I went to Poland on my own when I was 18, to live there for a year and teach English. That was quite scary, but totally worth it!No argument on the single supplement problem. Or the travelling alone not being able to speak the language scariness. Definitely much more sensible to find somebody else who wants to see them and go together.
There is a real freedom, though, in going somewhere on your own (if it's a sensible place to be on your own as a woman, of course)....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I'm sure there can be, under the right circumstances. Foreign countries can be difficult on your own, though, if you don't have much money. I remember spending 5 days at a conference in the US when I was a graduate student. I didn't need to attend much of the conference - frankly I didn't understand any of it apart from my own talk and that of the post-doc from our group, and I was only sent on the conference because our paper was selected for oral presentation and my supervisor's health issues didn't allow him to go. So I had a lot of spare time alone in the city. I did go some places and see some things and have a bit of fun, but I could only do the free things, and it would have been a lot more fun with either a friend/partner or at least a little money for discretionary spending, or ideally both.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I've only ever spent time in foreign countries on my own with very little money, really - when I was living in Poland, I was earning the grand sum of 1.8 million zloty a month (also known as 180 zloty a month) which was about £350. But, fortunately, Poland and its neighbours weren't expensive places. My best mate was also living in Kutna Hora, a town near Prague, so I spent some time with her, and we also travelled a bit together....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

We live in a different part of the county but the children leave their respective schools this year and we like two schools in Worcester.
.
KSW? That was one of the reasons I went to Worcester with my American friends, to show them the school that their family attended.... in the 1600s. I found it a charming little town but with horrid rush hour traffic, not untypical in a city that was not built for cars.
The rels did rather well out of their KSW education. In addition to the one who became a Burgess in America, one became mayor of Worcester, another one of the most successful merchants in London, and a third was last heard of running for Cardinal. I hear their results are still good, 400 years later. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Since the NPT is a safe place to ask random questions...
If you were in my position, what would you wear to LNE's inquest???
No clothing advice, just wanted to say hope it goes ok and not too stressful for you and kids. You have come a long way since the accident. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I saw that too and was shocked. The sad thing is that a number of cyclists have been killed or seriously injured on the legally cyclable road that he should have been riding on, so I can't help wondering if he thought the hard shoulder was safer:eek:.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I had quite a lot of fun living in France, alone and with very little money, because I was there for 6 weeks, which was long enough to get to know people, and I had a job and went to a church, which gave me things to do and people to see for a lot of the time, making me enjoy my free time better by contrast.
The thing that I felt was a wasted opportunity was 4 days in Boston (Mass). With no job and only a few days available, I couldn't become even a temporary part of any community, so the only thing to do was to try to "do the tourist thing" alone and with no money, and that didn't go so well.
I suppose what it boils down to is that I don't like being alone for many days at a time. I quite like travelling alone, but only if I get to meet people when I get to wherever it is.vivatifosi wrote: »No clothing advice, just wanted to say hope it goes ok and not too stressful for you and kids. Thank you. It isn't for a few months yet; I'm just making preliminary attempts to get my head round the logistics.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
