Sorry to hear the news too NDG.
A mate had a similar experience. PN is correct regarding entry points, as mate was burgled the same way at least 1 further time - same entry/MO etc.

Nope - this is the year of the cucumber.

Had a shock this weekend. Turned round in the chair I was sat in to see a huge (for me) cucumber had formed & grown on the ladder! Already about 7 inches long! Very pleasing. Lots of other little fruits on there - so very hopeful. Couple of others nearly as big too.

Have emptied & eaten a tub of carrots. Made some lovely salads, as well as some carrot & leek soup.

Still waiting for my first tomato! They're all still green. That said I am noticing more & more appearing on the plants though.... However, am preparing to make more of that soup, having brought in 2 tubs of carrots. I'll only have 4 more tubs to harvest (before getting to the ones in the ground!)

I did transplant some beetroot out from tubs, & was worried that they were struggling in their tub. They didn't seem to be taking, so I intended to harvest them this week, but got tied up 3 evenings running, then saw they were fine. Few leaves starting to look a bit rough, so will possibly harvest them next weekend.

I'm in a bit of a grump. Nothing veryserious, but ...stuff...

Sometimes he is so diplomatic it's annoying - he says so exactly the rightthing that even a grumpy cow like me can't find it irritating - whichis annoying in itself, in my current mood, naturally.
quite possibly the mostfemale thing I've ever read/heard in my life...

We are going for a second viewing on the housethat we didn't really like that much on Sunday morning at 9.30 which seems abit irregular, esp. as it is currently tenanted so the agent has to be there, but that's the only time the tenant said they'd be out so fair enough...

I sent my mum the rightmove link and she came back with a very long, critical email which started off with "how bloody much?" And wentdownhill from thereon in. The garden facing north east seemed to upset her themost and there was a long paragraph about how much trouble conservatories are.

It's not ideal by any stretch of the imagination but it is 5 mins walk fromthe station, the pub, the shops and a 2 minute walk from a friend's house sothat seems to outweigh the fact that the garden might not get much sun after2pm...

devils advocate, but why bother? Seems clear you didn't like it, won't behappy there as it isn't what you want, & that view is unlikely to change asa result of a 2nd viewing I assume?

I gave in & bought tickets for his Oxford show. Mainly as I went toPistyll Rhaeadr yesterday. Took a lot of really nice photo's. Had a picnic& listened to his latest album in the tranquility & found it all to bequite epic!

The thing is. Most of us went through thatstage. Even if we don't like to admit it, we had bratty or obnoxious moments.

    Som e of still do

Hopefully, having them to look back on shames us into fewer of them as wegrow up. Right?

Good lord!:eek:I'm still like this no

Nice one, LIR. Perhaps you should offer to have a Halloween bash, with lots of naked dancing around campfires, to make the most of having a heathen in the parish?
We do that for wassailing. :D

Halloween we stick to squash because they are really quite attractive!

Any excuse for naked campfires though......

Remind me where this is again...?;)

Why? What was so very gender-specific about it?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Our insurance covers us against entry through upstairs open windows - at least I think it does. It might be worth checking, rather than assuming the worst.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Ours requires us to have locks on all accessible windows, so I guess we are not covered.

In fact there was an argument when we had the double glazing put in. FENSA registered window people insist that one window in every bedroom has to be non-key operable, so you push a little button and turn the handle. Insurance require a key on every window.
Our windows have a lockable very slightly open position, that allows half an inch of opening. We used to use this until friends with similar windows had them jammy-ed by some burglar.

    food for thought...

I frequently go out and leave the house unlocked. There are always windows open. I park my car in the square and do not lock it. One day I will come unstuck. I just don't want to live my life as if under threat. Everything I really value breathes.

The point is that upstairs windows are not generally regarded as accessible.
