I've never read the book, but saw the film when it first came out.
Me and my missus went through a period of going to the pictures once a month back then and we would take it in turns to pick the film.
My choices included proper stuff like Terminator, Cape Fear and JFK.
Her choices included girlie stuff like that fried green tomatoes , Prince of f*cking tides, and Frankie and Johnny.
(and I had to pretend to like that stuff or we would end up arguing and I wouldn't get my leg over))0 -
Congratulations Nikki. Fab life milestone.
Miss K your talents continue to amaze me.
Lemonjelly do not feel deprived by tales of NP ripe tomatoes. Mine have only ripened over the last week -we returned from hols on Sunday to the first that are ready to pick.
A triumph over previous years.0 -

Ah, living apart DH and I watch anything only one wants to watch when only One is there, or he watches something at the weekend and I fall asleep. I never mind being woken up afterwards.0 -
DS is happy. He has decided to apply to be a library assistant at school. He has to fill in an application form and get his tutor or a teacher to give him a reference. His tutor taught him maths all last year, so knows him reasonably well, so he's done the reference for him. He has written:DS is a very reliable, sensible and well organised pupil. I can certainly recommend him for this role.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Well, we adore him Lydia. In fact fir was just asking after the kids very recently and we were smiling at what treasures they are.
Your ds is very special. Smart, but sensitive. Thoughtful. Thinks a lot. One can see it clearly. I am convinced, he has a lot of choice in the future.0 -

It's funny, I probably got reports like that at school and now with hindsight wish I had had more fun at the time....
Sofa is a 2 seater but not small, very dark navy leather, pretty good condition, quite comfortable....I think....0 -

Lydia - oh I so understand this, try to share his joy. Feeling sad about their successes says we value them less, that ebullient and frequent expressions of pleasure are worth 'more'.
My internal dialogue has had this battle often . Our DD has never been 'outgoing' and life events have not helped. I try not to 'rate' her pleasures on any mythical scale of how 'joyful/confident' others are. Comparing is pointless.
Introverts are under rated.0 -
Good luck CK and FC and any other TwoLA NPs that might see fit to stop forthis month.
I've stopped smoking too, and don't know whether to feel smug or cross. So I'm going for both.

You might be over-thinking it? The fact that's he really pleased about it might not reflect self-confidence problems, but more that (say) he's tried hard to be organised, when it doesn't come naturally, and is glad the effort was appreciated?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
