I posted the correction mainly as a tongue in cheek comment, as I've seen NDG correct a few less/fewer posts in the past, & thought it was a bit ironic. (NB NDG has never issued a correction in a manner other than friendly).

I had no idea she was dyslexic, & apologised in case I had offended her or any dyslexics, as my intent may have not been clear, & may easily have been open to misinterpretation.

I would not want to hurt or offend anyone.

I'm not offended, and am rarely offended anyway. If I correct people, I assume they will be vigiliant for me, too (-:

I'm impressed that someone dyslexic can hold down a job as a barrister. Very impressed.

And astonished. It's rather like hearing that Fred Dibnah had vertigo.

Not impressive - there are degrees of dyslexia, and it affects different things. I don't have any trouble at all reading - I learnt to read young, and read very fast. It would be difficult to do my job if reading was a problem for me.

My dyslexia affects my spelling, and used to cause a bit of a reluctance to write in general - I found it an effort. Typing is much easier for me than writing by hand is. I also had a lot of trouble with foreign languages, particularly the writing of them, but also the whole lot, and complicated spatial shapes caused me grief in Maths - algebra was fine, so was arithmatic and so forth, but geometry was tricky, and trigonometry a complete nightmare. My GCSE results reflected all that - I got As in Eng Lit, Eng Lag, history, geography, physics, class civ and music, and Bs in maths, Latin and German.

I was lucky, because while I was at UCL, I was part of a study into dyslexia, based on measuring brain waves and things like that. I got paid £5 an hour for it, and also got told a lot about my type of dyslexia, which was (they opined) caused by brain damage at birth, not inherent. I was born by crash c-section when my heartbeat fell off a cliff (the sort of operation where they more bash the mother over the head than administer a gentle anaesthetic, slice the abdomen from top to bottom instead of a subtle scar along the bikini line, and whip the baby out in a few minutes, rather than over half an hour).
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

This is my critical parent side bubbling through....which I hate myself for..and I have kept my mouth firmly shut ...but I am worried.. what if she flunks it?

well done for being such a lovely and wonderful mother (even if she doesnt think so).

Sadly you can't fix everything for her forever and her first lesson will be the hardest. Although I have to give a bit of insider knowledge here, it's nigh on impossible to fail a Master's course. (pm you later)

Both you and mr S have done more than enough (I would expect Master's level students to have done it all themselves, with guidance from supervisor).

And hope the meeting this morning goes ok. :)

Nikks; Glad Bestival was fun...did you bump into any nice man-totty whilst you were there?

Not really. Saw some from afar, but not to bump into.

Most of the stewards were about 19, and whilst everyone there (stewards and non-stewards) was pretty friendly, the vast majority were there in groups/ couples. I'm not very good at approaching people if there isn't a 'reason'.

Plus a large proportion of the blokes seemed to be wearing leggings for much of the weekend, which was rather disconcerting.

This morning I had some not very spicey lime pickle for breakfast.

As well as being a non traditional breakfast choice its the spiciest thing I've eaten for a year since the pills that make even fruit juice taste peppery. I think that side effect is wearing of, as the lime pickle tasted just delicious.

Of course, my gut will complain, but you know, my mouth was happy, and it was only a teaspoon.

You cannot please all of the body all of the time. Well, you can, but then you have to get on with the rest of the day....

The lawn mower and I have a date before it rains. Big dog and diazepam, is brilliant, I wish we'd done it years ago......she rarely goes a full night without going out for a widdle but she was doggo last night. Brilliant! Drug your pets and kids.
