There was talk elsewhere about someone on a reality show (BB?) who I remember seeing on Wogan donkeys years ago. He was a child prodigy with curly hair and a bow-tie and was an antiques expert who talked like an adult.
Wogan said to him "if this is what you're like at ten, what'll you be like at twenty?". He had a sex-change by then. I never know what pronouns to use when discussing people undergoing this process.
The destination sex denotes the gender of pronoun that should be used IME. A family member took this journey in her late 60s.
Holidays in Oz? We get the Christmas and Easter ones of course. Then we get Australia Day, the anniversary of Cap'n Cook 'discovering' Sydney. That Sydney needed discovering was probably a surprise to the Wangal people living there. This ends the summer holidays in most people's minds, a period which starts with the Melbourne Cup in November.
There's ANZAC Day, which celebrates the birth of a country. WW1 was the first expression of Australia outside Australia and that started a tradition which endures: you've not succeeded as an Aussie unless you're recognized outside Australia. By tradition, ANZAC Day starts with a memorial service at the local RSL (a kid of hyper-British Legion on steroids). Then a march in dress uniform an medals before going to the bar. It's the only day each year you can play '2 up' in a pub legally, a gambling game popular with squadies back in the day (it's slightly advanced heads/tails)
We get Queen Victoria's birthday off as already discussed.
Some of us get the Bank Holiday, financial institutions and health workers get that. Health workers get it as an extra day of paid holiday though, normally taken at Christmas.
Finally there's Labour Day in October. That's notable as the only Public Holiday which isn't notable for anything!
Some of the States and Territories get extra days. For example, the state of Victoria gets Melbourne Cup Day (a horse race which combines quality of flat racing as seen at The Derby with the populism of the Grand National).
Some people would like Australia Day moved, especially indigenous Australians. They are understandably touchy about celebrating the day that started the process of their subjugation. Generally spirit is, have a national day but on a better date.
Mrs Generali is in an ambulance on her way to hospital. Am on the bus on my way to meet up with her. Trouble breathing.0 -

Is this 'normal' for Mrs Generali? Does she have a condition where this has happened before?
You are sounding pretty cool about it, going on the bus, posting here.0 -

No, this isn't normal.
I was in The City and the bus is the quickest way out to my car. Once I'm sitting on the bus, posting about Aussie holidays keeps my mind off things.
She seems ok if very sick. Pretty low blood pressure: 96/46. I'm no expert though. They've got her on a heart minister and are giving oxygen. We're waiting for the Doc.
Her Dad is here and I'm out moving his car for him as he doesn't walk so well.0 -

Generali, hope all goes as well as it can for you both. I am sure she will have the best of care.0 -

Well, on behalf of us 4 and Familija Skoric (who are here with us), we hope she's better soon!
How have you lot managed to get through 71 pages already?

Gen,
Love and good, healthy thoughts from here for you and mrs gen. Even an uncharacteristic cyber kiss or two X x hope you get time to let us know when all is well.0 -
We got the DVD of Snow White with the twilight girl this weekend. Its not diminishing my desire for a creepy woodsy hallway at all. I'm almost ready to stick branches over the door ways and windows ATM.
We haven't watched the whole thing. (I have fallen asleep during two things this weekend.....) but what I have seen so far is really good fantasy film, the way one often wishes it were done.....0 -
Well she's back home (it's 6pm here).
It turns out that she has pneumonia. The "good news" is that it's only in one lung at the moment. It reminds me of the 'lucky' bloke that fell 10 floors or got hit by a bus and survived.
I've got the next 2 days off work to look after her. Work are being excellent about this actually, really very good. The only questions Mrs Boss had were connected to Mrs Generali's well being and to ensure I carry on being paid whilst off.
Thanks for all your kind thoughts. It helps.0
