I'm enjoying seeing the BBC photos of the east getting lots of rain as we had warm and mostly sunny although not being in the se makes you realise how se centric the BBC news is.Is stat min holiday 20 plus bank hols or 20 Inc bank hols?
5.6 weeks.I also used to try and work between Xmas and new year because of the easy commute and quiet office for getting lots done but it isn't an option with kids.
In the past, say, it could have been that I finished work at 5.30 Xmas Eve, had to drive 300 miles to my parents, then drive back Boxing Day evening to be back at work the next day. Followed by the rest of the time alone, without family etc. That was the scenario one year when a daft employer "decided" that as there were 3 staff and 3 days we should all have one day off to "make it fair", without asking people what they wanted.
Once we were asked, I wanted to go away for the week, one wanted days off leading to Xmas as he had kids, the other was a Scot and wanted the New Year week off.0 -
I like bonfires, there is something very comforting about them. We had a BBQ for dinner then OH went off to light it. I had a bath then went to stand and watch too...in my dressing gown and slippers.
Seeing her on horseback on the drive made me think kindly thoughts about owning horses. It has worn off now.
I adore bonfires - satisfies my inner arsonist without causing actual damage.
My sisters both have horses - the elder of my younger sisters has 1, the other has 4. And a mate of theirs has 2 in the stables as well. It involves far too much getting up at 6am in the winter to be my idea of fun.PasturesNew wrote: »
Which I'd prefer would depend on what's going on in my life. If I amd family were local then going to work between Xmas and NY wouldn't be a problem. If you're travelling 300 miles then it becomes an issue.
I went through 3 years of doing junior-barrister-on-call things - one particularly horrible year I drew Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, which seemed a bit harsh. Neither is a normal court sitting day, so they are like Saturday courts or bank holidays, just processing and bailing or remanding the recently-arrested....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
At work BH including Christmas day are not gauranteed to be off. It is a 365 day service. Many departments are shut though.
One of my teams is rostered to work BH but not Christmas day.
That is essentially how it is for DH. Even before I was told last year not to fly, holiday planning has felt tricky because of the tendency for last minute cancellations etc and work happening while away or even being recalled its not so bad for us, because obviously I am not employed. If I were employed it would be extremely stressful. In fact, it is damaging to relationships, DH sees it all the time. Its one of the prices made in that sort of signing soul away ....its not just one's own time messed with . People at work. book holidays to remorse places not because they want to go there at all, but on the promise that signal is patchy and difficult.....:rotfl: so they have genuine reason to have been unavailable. Really all these people want ( and need) is a few days unmolested and not thinking short haul to recharge...would be much more sensible.
Things have been both better and worse post crunch....pace of work is different, and there are still people who in dh's opinion have never seen things full swing....its not that there is never a lot of work, there still is, and people are keen to do it because the spectre of redundancies in the industry still looms large. Job dissatisfaction is also rife and a lot of people are drifting into private practise ATM. Dh's employers avoided any redundancies at all, at least technically, that sort of employer loyalty is good IMO, but demands blood in return.
Edit...hmmm, remorse should have read remote!0 -

We had lovely weather yesterday. Today it is raining.
Statutory min holiday is 5.6 weeks (28 days). So you must take that number of days off although you can sell back the rest.
Does that mean you can now take some time off between now and Christmas?0 -

I covered several years of these New Years' Day courts by choice, which were always really civilised because the police didn't want to lock too many people up. Suited me down to the ground as I was away over Christmas and didn't drink much on NYEve.0 -
I look on this as ruling out sinister stuff at the earliest point which is a good thing. But I was surprised as I had no inkling that GP might be considering this and yesterday felt as flat as a pancake. I hate surpises.
I've been there! I had a phone call from my GP: "Your blood cell test shows an abnormality...." I looked it up, and apparently this particular abnormality is a sure sign of leukemia. The GP arranged for me to see the consultant double-quick, and of course it was nothing. I was grateful that the GP was being cautious and vigilant, and I've learnt to take my self-diagnoses with a pinch of salt.
Hoping for an equally positive result for you (or negative result, this language thing is so complicated!)No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Who ever it was played Dorothy was allegedly a lesbian hence friend of Dorothy.
It took me 2 hrs from St albans to bridport last night if that helps but I was exhausted so drove too fast, I did wave at the appropriate moments to viva, sc, gdb, chewie, zag, spirit, on and lir. Selfishly we are coming back on Sunday evening, should really have stayed to Monday and kidnapped on for a BBQ on the beach but I just wanted a day at home on Monday doing weekend things before work on Tuesday with no more days off until Christmas :-(
I'm in Norfolk, so unfortunately I missed your waving. Yesterday was a grey, rainy day. Today, though, has cleared up beautifully. I started the day by going for a walk/jog in the woods here before 7AM, which seems awfully "keen". Surprisingly many other people in the woods at that time. There must be a whole bunch of early risers here in Sheringham.
The pensioners here are a terror! I was at the Holt Country Market, which is more or less run by the local branch of the WI, and they are an avaricious lot. I have never been subject to such a hard sell over a bunch of rhubarb before! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Grim weather yesterday, just driven back in by rain now.
Especially annoying as sonny him weather man is grinning about what great weather it is. I might send him a picture. Fool.0 -
It's drizzling here, just a little. Cool, overcast, drizzle.
At least it's not lashing down and gales.0 -

Thank you for the wave!
I am staying close to home this weekend, going anywhere sounds too big an effort. It will involve a visit to Mr T today and probably sale shopping in Watford tomorrow. Unable to gravitate out of Herts. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
