That's a brilliant link. As regards the Rift valley, my mate pointed out that there were up to seventeen hominids coexisting there at one point in the past (including our lot of course), He said it must have looked like the bar-room scene from Star Wars.:D

Now you mention it I've compared certain motorway service stations with that as well, not too far from Chewie's travels,

here, it's just rained yesterday and today. But we took Isaac to a lecture at the Science Museum today, which he loved, so it's not been all bad.

I've chosen to do NYD several times, too - it's quick, and I don't see the point of NYE much.

    UOTE]

    What was the lecture about?

I have cleaned out the eglu and OH cleared/strimmed the chicken run brambles. We have both been bitten by horse flies and I am lightly sprinkled with red mites. Just going to have bath.

Have done boxing day and NYD as exec on call. Neither a picnic but I had the easy job. I take my hat hat off to what staff cope with from the great british public.

As Pastures, said festivals do not bring out the best in some people.

edit: in the midst of the cleaining - dripping sweat, and up to my arms washing things in a tin bath full of water and jeys fluid OH brought me Pimms, with all the trimmings and a pink straw.

Well. The sun came out so we rushed out and painted half the new big fence on the front side. It looks good, hopefully finish the front side tomorrow and get it looking smart. We also ripped out most of an old post and rail fence the. Carefully re erected the ancient rails so it looked like they had always been somewhere else. The nails were old blacksmith nails! Incredible. It will need replacing in a few years, but it softens the changes to a roadside fence line for the locals. Goodness knows they are going to find the colour scheme difficult enough.

We now have a wonderful mounting area, where difficult horses can be mounted from a very high mounting block facing away from the road, but with no gates to manage before heading out, its a nifty use of a little corner. Its also got a tall post to tie up on, so one could tie up a second horse, mount your trickster horse. ( or easy one if lucky) then collect the second horse from the post, rather than mount with the second horse.

I'm obviously thinking about second horses a lot.

Watched Antiques Roadshow tonight. Very excited that Jewelcraft items have gone up as I have lots. So went off to look at eBay to look for vintage costume jewellery.

Saw this and thought of lir. It is very much a Marmite piece. Not sure whether I love it or hate it. Def not sure if lir will love or hate it!

I like it. Its a little quite for me...too blue and the wrong shade of green, but a beautiful shape, which endears t to me. Although I love the shape he slight heart shapes in the feathers of the tail is slightly off putting...I don't do hearts On the wrong sort of chain. Still. I like it!

Funnily enough, I like marmite too, I can take it or leave it....I am one of the few peoe who doesn't marmite react to marmite. I slightly prefer Vegemite I suppose.

I was just talking to DH ( prompted by antiques roadshow:oh and saying my favourite cuts of stone are emerald, baguette, marquise then rounds, Maybe ovals. I wouldn.t feel comfortable with a pear I don't think, and a heart cut stone would make me want to cry. I don't know how I'd feela bout something like a trillion.

Its funny the reaction one has to things. I definitely prefer cushion to princess, for example...which when I like the hard shapes of emerald and baguette seems rather odd of me. Almost, contrary.

There was talk elsewhere about someone on a reality show (BB?) who I remember seeing on Wogan donkeys years ago. He was a child prodigy with curly hair and a bow-tie and was an antiques expert who talked like an adult.

Wogan said to him "if this is what you're like at ten, what'll you be like at twenty?". He had a sex-change by then. I never know what pronouns to use when discussing people undergoing this process.

I like Marmite and Vegemite, but I don't love them. They are nice every now and then...

In terms of cuts, I think a lot depends on the stone. I really don't like heart cut anything - it is a waste of stone and a silly cut. I'm not mad on marquise either, but a lot depends on setting. Emeralds - I love baguette cut. Diamond, I really like (but can't afford) the Asscher cut. Soft colour large stones, like Rose de France Amethyst, I like cushion cut. Tanzanite looks really good trillion cut. Any unclear stone though I like as a cabuchon. I really don't like faceting on things like carnelian. My favourite stones are Paraiba Tourmaline and Russian Alexandrite. The latter is so hard to get though that my ring has round cut stones in, slightly bigger than grit:o.

I'm googling your favorite stones now...don't know the tourmeline.....its beautiful! Alexandrite I thought I knew but google makes it much more interesting than I realised, I can see why you like it.

I like fire opals. The clear ones, not the orange ones, the clear ones than look like nothing till a little bit of orange sparks out of them. I have a loose one in my sparkly corner. Don't know what to do with it. I also have a milky one that sparks orange, I'd like a ring made of it to stack with my wedding ring or maybe to wear on my middle finger. The tendency will be to wear it too often I fear. :o. I might just play with them every now and again with the cats on the bed like now.

Paraiba tourmaline is just stunning. It really is the colour of the Caribbean, but not at all like aquamarine or blue topaz or apatite. It contains copper, so it's a blueish green or greenish blue. Beautiful. I like fire opals too. In fact I like lots of shiny beautiful things. At one point I looked into collecting loose stones, but that was just one step too far along the path to poverty!
