I especially cook rice if there are more then 2 of us. Rice is about £2 a portion. It's £1 a kilo (raw) round here. Add the spices, which we always have, and a stock cube and it works just as well. You are, after all, putting a curry on top, not eating the rice on it's own. I'd rather forego the slight taste difference and save a bit of money that could potentially pay for another couple of dishes if you equate it like that.
Phone the order, bung the rice cooker on. No brainer.

No, it's not really a no brainer, it's your personal preference not everybody's obvious choice. I'd rather have 1/2 a generous portion of 'proper' basmati rice and also enjoy time off cooking, but that doesn't mean my choice is more valid or clever than other people's.

Think we'll have to agree to differ on this one. Bunging the rice cooker on is not cooking in my opinion. No more than putting the kettle on.

Yep, like using the microwave to cook a pouch of rice. Oh well, each to their own

Great 'Clever ordering techniques... eg, "double cheeseburger with Big Mac sauce, please"' Hunt

Forumite aquamac has an ingenious way to cut the cost of a Big Mac by £1.10-£1.40 - by asking for a double cheeseburger with Big Mac sauce (see original thread). We want to tap MoneySavers' collective knowledge on other fast food and other restaurants you can do this at to cut costs.

I've re posted the first message as I think some of this thread is off topic. If you are cooking at home to save money that is great but I am sure this about ORDERING techniques?!!!!!

At Pizza Hut (restaurants, I don't know about delivery stores), a 'create your own' pizza only covers 2 toppings, then you pay up to £1.50 for each extra topping. So if you wanted 5 toppings, it adds up pretty quickly!
Instead, choose one of the pre-set pizzas and swap any toppings for free :) It usually works out much cheaper! I'm a waitress there and I always work out the cheapest option when people ask for create your own pizzas, but others don't so it's best to work it out yourself and ask for it that way! :)

e.g. A large create your own pizza with 6 toppings at my store would cost £20.95
Instead, asking for a Supreme (which has 6 toppings) and swapping for what you want would cost £14.95 :)

I wonder whether D*****s (!) would let you do it on a delivery order?
Thank you for reading this message.

It's worth asking! I don't see why it would be a problem really. Try and pick a pizza that already has some of the toppings you want so it's a bit less obvious?

I suppose if you are in the area / near the shop, it doesn't seem worth asking them to deliver (besides you save on the tip to the delivery boy :D)

There is also the time element.
If I order a delivery curry from my local Indian, it will take nearly an hour (plus as you say the tip for the driver).
If however I order and collect it, they know me, and it takes only twenty minutes - far better when you have a "rumbly tummy":D
