McDonalds - how to get a Big Mac (Mally Mac) at McDonalds for £1.20 to £1.50

I have 4 children and as they are growing and times are tough a trip to McDonalds is a rare treat as they are no longer satisfied with a Happy Meal, my eldest actually wants 2 burgers these days!! A full meal for five can cost in excess of £20, but I have a way to eat cheaper and fresher...
It is a little known (but brilliant) fact that McDonalds have a policy that the customer is always right, and staff are instructed that they must customise any burger how the customer wishes. Now I like a Quarter Pounder Deluxe (with tomota, mayo and sald) but they only run this at special times, but for many years i have requested the extra salad etc to be added to a regular QP with no problems (well 1 notable exception but thats another story), and have never been charged, the other bonus of this is though you have to wait for a few mins the burger is always made fresh.
My children love Big Macs (as do I) but these evil little treats on their own work out very expensive, so I get them to customise a double cheeseburger which i think retails at £1.20 (saver menu) to add in lettuce and a shot of mac sauce. The only difference (apart from we also get tomato which is non standard for a big mac) is the skank piece of bread in the middle is missing as are the sesame seeds but in every other respect its a big mac, in fact it actually tastes a little better imo.
At some McDonalds they will charge you up to 30p for the shot of mac sauce, but i dont mind paying that, others charge nothing, so a big mac turns out for around £1.20 to £1.50 made fresh. My local McDonalds even know the order my name is Malcolm we call this burger a mally mac they even know it as that, when they get an order for 6 mallys mac the order staff laugh because some poor guy in the back has to go make them up, but when the bill is between £7.20 and £9 for 6 big macs well we dont care.
Enjoy your mally mac! God bless the golden arches, i hope they never change that policy

You can make Mac sauce at home- 4 tablespoons of mayo, 2 teaspoons of ketchup, 2 teaspoons yellow mustard and one tablespoon of finely chopped gherkins. Leave it in the fridge for an hour or so before you use it though. (From The Takeaway Secret by Kenny McGovern). They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0

Oh another person that thinks the only way to save money is to stay indoors 24/7 looking at blank walls.
I idea of money saving to to get something you normally buy at a cheaper price.
We do lead normal lives you know.0 -
When the thundering herd get on-the-edge-of-nasty with hunger, we hit a McD and I get hamburgers. We get odd looks asking for over 10 of anything (there are 5 of us) but it's the cheapest fast food for the unprepared for 5. (They they go a bit daft with the tomato ketchup pumps.) Averting snarling, lashing, often a bit too public rows is worth at least a tenner to me.
Mostly as it reminds me, hard, in the wallet, to plan better next time.0 -
another q - can anyone buy kids meals or the kid has to be in front of them to actually give away the kids meals ?0

Technically, it's a "Happy meal"...not a kids meal.
So just come up to the counter looking glum and if anyone asks then just say that you needed cheering up.
Edit: Last time I was in McDonalds the woman in front of me just bought two Smurf toys...
Also...OP where do you live? I can imagine asking for this in a central london store...the chance of getting it is probably very, very close to zero0
