  • Next time, lie saying the 4th person is on their way when ordering. Then when you get the meals, the waitress will ask where's the 4th person. Just say they have broken down...

It may not be the most serious crime ever, but this is fraud
"fraud is an act of deception intended for personal gain or to cause a loss to another party."

and it's not the first time this poster has suggested breaking the law

We occasionally buy the Indain meal deals at the take away. You know one rice, one bread a side and a meat dish. I cook one portion of rice at home and always have frozen parathas so I cook one of those too. When the take away arrives I tip the 'professional' rice in the rice cooker and give it a good mix not forgetting to swish some plain rice around the tin to get the last bits. (also do this with the meat tine too) We then have flavoured rice each. We share the meat and side and half half naan and half home cooked bread.

I have to be honest, maybe it's me but I don't get this one, you don't get either the convenience of a take away because you still have to cook, or the 'original' taste because you mix up the rice, but at the same time you spend more money than if you bought it all form the supermarket.

I personally dont need a whole meat dish and a whole rice and a whole side/starter and a bread. Putting a scoop of rice in the rice cooker cost no time at all and when mixed with the bought curry house rice - especially if keema, garlic or a heavily spiced pillau - I can't taste much of a difference. I put the plates on top of the rice cooker and the lid on top of that so the plates warm while the rice cooks. Asda to paratha for about £2 for 6 frozen. Straight from the freezer into a pan. If I didn't do rice and bread at home DH would want a set meal for himself. This way I am having a treat whilst saving £10 - £12.
  • The next time you visit a place where the sachets of ketchup, mayo, salad cream etc are free and able to grab loads - do that.

Put them in a small tub in your handbag or glove compartment in your car. When you do visit somewhere where they charge 10p for a sachet or don't have a certain sauce, you can get them out of your tub.

My friend does this as she meets up with her sister and the place they go to only gives them one sachet free per meal.

I do this for my 22 month old son! I refuse to pay 10p a sachet, it's extortionate! He loves his red sauce though, so anywhere there's free sachets, I stock up :)

You can get really neat small containers like tupperware that hold sauce, when my children were young I used to keep some in the car/in my bag so we always had a stock with us. I have no qualms stocking up on ones from a restaurant but have had the odd sachet split in my bag - karma!

Often the bags of microwave rice are on offer and can work out cheaper
The poster was talking about cooking the whole meal not just the rice.

I was referring to those who were talking about cooking their own rice and having the ides poo-pooed as it was cooking. Micro rice a middle ground.

I assume if people are ordering a takeaway then they don't want to do any cooking even microwaving.

Maybe that's what you (and I) do, but some posters have clearly said that they buy a takeway and also cook some rice, warm up bread etc.
I have to say that if I was ordering t/a for 4-5 people I might throw some rice in my electric cooker too, to be honest....

I especially cook rice if there are more then 2 of us. Rice is about £2 a portion. It's £1 a kilo (raw) round here. Add the spices, which we always have, and a stock cube and it works just as well. You are, after all, putting a curry on top, not eating the rice on it's own. I'd rather forego the slight taste difference and save a bit of money that could potentially pay for another couple of dishes if you equate it like that.
Phone the order, bung the rice cooker on. No brainer.
