You're just around the corner. I've got an XP Pro disc should you need it and a Boot CD with suitable utilities for retrieving any important files.

I should still be awake at 2am.

Just read that it's XP Home. :)

ok going to be a bit long winded this one I'm afraid:

    1) - Can you tell me EXACTLY what the blue screen is saying (I think if we can fix it without going down the boot cd root may be quicker)

As at the moment, the only boot disks I can find need a floppy version.. does your PC have a floppy drive and do you have some floppies?

Donnie, that boot disk should still let you run the recovery console...

    I know...I thought he/she would like to wait for his/her brother. :)

Either way, the disc are still on offer at no charge.

OK. Blue screen says the following:

'Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or back-up utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

    Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x00000024.........................(let me know if you need these numbers, couldnt be bothered to type it all up as it doesnt seem useful).

ok lazy that's a problem that ONLY the recovery console will fix...

it's related to your NTFS.sys system file becoming corrupted..

if you can get a boot disk.. the it should be easily fixed.

However we need a boot disk.. problem is this:

making a bootable CD is a right pain if you've never done it before....

so do you have a supply of floppies and does your PC's BOTH have floppy drives?
