BIG TROUBLE! COMPUTER not working! DEADLINE tomorow!

Last night I done an error check on my computer, half way through on stage4 to be precise I turned the computer off by holding the on/off switch for a few seconds which I know was stupid but was in a rush!

I came home today and turn on the computer to see a blue screen come up saying 'disable or uninstall any anti virus, disk defragmentation or back utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers'

I know this is due to the error check, I havnt updated any drivers or anything so that is not a problem. I got coursework to do, a lot of it, which is due in tomorow and I am DOOMED!

I cant even go into safe mode, the screen is always coming up regardless of what mode I go in. I think I will need to go into setup and play around with advance BIOS etc? I dont know anything about computers but that seems the route?

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! I really am in DEEP TROUBLE!

If your near me I will come and help you out, the number of times I get a call late the night before a deadline its crazy if you want me to call let me know.

other than that your options are to use the check disk at command prompt if that fials then perform a windows repair from the windows CD.

to get to a command prompt you will need to put the windows cd in the drive and boot to the cd I think its the first screen you will get the option to use the recovery console by pressing the r key
once you get the command prompt type
    chkdsk /f
    and hit enter

it will scan the drive and fix any errors hopfully without loosing anything.

the other option is to perform the automatic repair.
you need to put the windows cd and boot up to the cd, continue the install at one pont it will ask if you want to install windows and check for an existing installation, it will find one and ask if you want to repair the install or install a fresh
select the repair option it will then perform the repair of the existing install. at points it will flash up that it is deleteing files don't worry about it just let it run to the end. and hopfully your pc will work as it did before but maybe a little slower it happens sometimes.

if your not happy you can then do what you need, back stuff up and format after the restore. but it will get you out of the !!!!.

    essentially yes.

download an XP boot disk (try and get the same version of the version on your laptop - home or pro)

burn those files onto a CD.

place in laptop and fire it up.. (you may need to go into the bios setup when it starts up to get it look at the CD for booting first rather than the hard drive)

if it's going straight for the hard drive it will just blue screen again.. if it uses the CD it should start going through a process..

when it gets to the end... it will ask you to install a new copy of XP or repair.. select repair and follow the instructions another poster posted above me to do with chkdsk etc...
