  • Ok, I did the mistake of sending them one,one and only text. They sent me the costs declaration AFTERWARDS. And of course, i texted to unsubscribe.I received a text from them stating that all services have been cancelled......I WISH! every time i topped up, they sent me texts they charged at 3 GBP each. Orange sais they cant block them, i.c.o. wants me to send them a form and will take ages, and phone pay plus said 'dont worry, it is probably the texts they had sent you when you were out of credit, and they charged you now.Dont worry, it only appens once'. Bull........... for 10 days and 2 topups it was ok, now they appeared again!

    What can I do?
I am not rich, no money to throw away.....

Thank you, I really appreciate any piece of advice...
    All the best!

Look at terms and conditions. usually with these companies, you need to text STOP ALL (in block capitals) and if it works, then that should be problem solved...
Otherwise, get a new number? You can get a free sim online.

No, that is £3 pounds per text.
Yes, I did that already, the first thing i did, the STOP text, and they replied, but it still goes on.

So, that is it? No way to protect myself against them? Got to change my number, already in all the damn CV s I have handed out.........?
I just have to accept the fact......?

Anyway, where are these free sims? (thank you)

Still, it doesnt feel right, you know, just doesnt!

I've had the block on my T-mobile accounts for ages - not only is it ridiculous that the other networks don't yet offer this, but also that you can be charged for something you never agreed to. It's like someone washing your windscreen at the traffic lights without asking and asking you for money for doing it.

It strikes me that, from a legal perspective, you should be able to write a letter to the network saying that you have at no point authorised anyone to charge anything to your account other than Vodafone, and since you pay them the bill, it is their problem. Say you want a full and immediate refund of such charges within 7 days, otherwise you'll commence legal action to recover them plus your costs without further notice.

What you'll more than likely find is that they will give you the money back.

If I change to T mobile, but ask Orange the PAC so I can keep the same number, is there a chance, the rip off texts still arrive to me?

I am with Tesco Mobile and when you log in to the website you have the option to bar premium rate texts from being received which I have done, so no problem for me with unwanted texts stealing my credit.

I have been scammed with texts this last week.
T Mobile tell me they have now put a block on premium rate texts on my PAYG account. I hope they have done.
However, after reading your post, I logged into my account to see the option to bar premium rate texts facility. Can you tell me please, where to find this option? I can't see it anywhere.

    Hi Evenasus,

First you have to be registered for My T-Mobile, I take it you are.
On the left hand side of the home page click on to 'My Price Plan'.
The tag 'Plan Features', scroll down and you will see 'CHARGE TO ACCOUNT BAR', make sure this is ticked.

Do you have the short code, the five figured number of the text you have received?

For Tesco Mobile Users To Block Premium Rate Texts.

For anyone who has not used it before, you go to website My Tesco Mobile.
You enter your mobile number in box and click ok. A text with a code will be sent to your tesco mobile phone and enter this code and tick the little box as well, you will then have access to set your favourite numbers, buy bundles, Ping Me a pound etc.
To block premium rate texts scroll down to Parental Controls. If you have not used it before you set a 4 digit code that you can remember and once you are in there the options are

    Block premium rate calls.

    Block premium rate texts.

Block adult content on Wap sites.

You just select which option(s) you want and scroll down to bottom of page and click Save and Exit.

If you get a text telling you it will be active within the hour, Ignore this text. You will receive a text within 48 hours saying that your premium rate services are active.

Once the premium rate texts are blocked, Ping Me A Pound, Call Bundles and Text Bundles will not work as they rely on premium rate texts. I know it stops 8xxxx texts at least but it does allow play National Lottery by text on 61111 which suits me.

    Hope this helps.

Will making my mobile phone ex-directory (in the new mobile phone directory that will be open to all) solve any future problems?

I had a bad problem in the past and don't want this to happen again!
