I suppose the OP could even try and get their name down on the test waiting list before their licence is revoked to minimise the time they have to spend with L plates on.
I believe you need to have done your theory test first and give them the pass number to book. Along with your provisional license number.0 -

Yes of course, but he still needs to pass his theory test again before he can book his practical test.0 -

vaio believed he could book in for a practical test now so he shouldn't have a long wait, when this isn't possible as he would require both his licence number and his pass reference for his theory test, I do wonder though, in these cases you often have to apply for a new provisional licence and I wonder would the licence number be the same or not.0 -

Yes, why should the driver number change?
His name and date of birth won't.0 -

Using my licence as ID when drunk and young I have had to replace mine before after losing it and the number was different which caused a bit of aggro as it created two files that were for me with the DVLA, when changing address I still have to clarify this.0 -
The only part of a driving licence number that can change with a reissued licence are the last 3 digits/letters.
The rest of the number is made up from your surname, initials and DOB.0 -

I was talking about the test in total rather then just the practical, presumably the OP could put his name down for a theory test now?
This assumes that the driving number doesn't change (which it looks like it might)0
