as I remember Cornish asked us posters in the last thread wether we would think it mattered if the link to the original post with the 'thanks' was taken off & just left the title/comp/answer etc on the postings,
as it was taking up time adding the extra link in on the 1st pages,
as far as I remember neither mumto2boys/me or jambo or any of the other 'updaters' said we minded, as it would be quicker & easier for her to just link the comp & quicker for the peeps to enter :)

i'll try to find the post

Comping cat - I don't think your any of the things you suggested (and I hope I didn't imply any of these in my post) nor do I think that most of the people posting think that of you either.

I think it is important that if people don't like the way something is done (especially a fairly new feature of the board) they speak up (as you have done) and canvass opinion. Otherwise the boards can't/won't work in the best way that they can.

What I will say, not specifically to yourself but more generally as I see this happening time and time again, is that if you do put your opinion forward or suggest a change you are going to have people come forward who disagree with you (life would be boring otherwise!) and it nothing more than a different viewpoint on the matter.

I think that's all people are meaning in the comments on this thread, they have a different opinion.

I agree, although there are ways and means of saying things without causing offence :/

I preferred the other way too and have said so previously and in this thread, but I also see the posters side of things - there are just so many mags now.

Comping Cat, you're thinking of the bigger picture, you are not horrible or anything else and contribute hugely to this forum and the fact you have posted and given you views shows how much you care about each and every comper here :T

Comping cat, I don't think anyone thinks or can say you are stupid or thick or any other words you used, you are of course entitled to your own opinion as are the rest of us.

I also don't believe you were aware cornishpasty had problems and that is why you chose now to post as I do recall you openly not liking the new mag system previously.

As I have said though if the majority like the new way then it makes sense to keep it, there only seems to be a small minority willing to speak up and say they don't like it when for the most part people are happy to say they prefer it (even those who were against it in the beginning).

I rarely do Magazine dailies anymore for the sheer length of time it takes to get through them all. I do think having all the competitions in one place is great, especially from the poster's perspective, however I have to agree with Comping Cat- unless you are a full-time comper and know they are there you will miss them. I'm an end-date comper so the mag dailies don't come up when I'm going through everything (and it's my own laziness because I know where they are) but I am still gutted when I miss out on holiday comps that are posted in the mags.

I have the daily mags in favourites on ie and sent myself an e mail with them all on to my hotmail account so click on the links in chrome (often have 2 or 3 pages of each open to allow the videos to run) I won a break to Shropshire at the beginning of July so worth doing these. Use the new thread to check when new ones appear so am greatful for the posters(and yes I
do thank) just thought I would share my way of doing these if it helps anyone.

The current method of posting reduces the number of thanks on a post as not everyone will trawl through the thread to thank and there are people who have said they have stopped doing them since the prizes were spread across several magazines.

However I don't think that accounts for all the difference, a £500 voucher with only 69 thanks compares very poorly to £500 of aromatherapy products with 373 thanks (same mag, old system).

By not having lots of individual threads it is likely people are missing out but (in addition to the posting effort saved) the single thread system saves a bit of time when going through newly added and it means there are fewer posts for the BG's to move to Game Over. (I don't enter them so doesn't make much difference to me how they are posted)

I for one like the new way of doing the dailies, but I have to say I now very seldom thank, and see that as one of the problems, it's not because I am lazy as I make a point of thanking on all the other comps I enter.

I am also seeing less wins in fact no wins at all over the last few months, whereas I had 5 wins in the first 3 months of the year.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion and no one is right or wrong, it's a case of what works for each individual.

I am eternally grateful to all the regular posters, as without them we would not have such a great hobby.

I can't speak for any other users, but speaking for myself: while I will always thank a poster of a new thread that I enter on the main board (at the same time as I green tick it), I can't say I am quite as diligent at trawling through the magazine thread and thanking every new post on it :embarasse

Depending on what I'm using to comp, I rarely even open the thread. If I'm at the PC, sometimes I'll go from that thread but equally often I'll just have the main "daily comps" thread open and go to each magazine from the links in that. It's rare that I go to each new post to click thanks. But if I'm comping from the Kindle Fire, then I don't even open MSE at all as it's so slow to link to other sites, I just go on each individual mag's comp pages and work through their dailies from there.

So that accounts for ONE less of the thanks - I wonder if other compers have similar explanations?

I wondered where all the 'good, big' prizes had gone - but I've also just had a very quick look at the magazine thread (the new one).

I stopped doing Look comps a while back - partly because they were so much trouble 1) having to login and 2) having to keep refusing the garbage they insist on offering as 'offers' every time. As more magazines went over to the exact same system I stopped doing them too.

So better for me not having to trawl through comps I'm not planning to enter anyway, and better for the one's who do enter the magazine comps because one less to compete.
