Thank you Melissa, you're right, no one is forcing me, and I'm not going to reduce my expectations either... so renting it is, and I'm happy with that. ................I'm happier still with the flights I've just booked!! ;-)

    Have a lovely holiday!

I have to say, I just checked out Christchurch on Findaproperty, and it's more expensive than Battersea!

Or go on holiday - decide you prefer it there. Buy a house outright for say - £20k, get a job maybe teaching English for pocket money & leave you still have £10k savings. Might happen.

Absolutely, but then you've bought your house, so its not longer an issue. :)

    Good job - have fun :T :T :T
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

It doesn't sound like you're in the right place in your life to be completely tied down, so why not enjoy yourself now?

    You've got 2 options:

    1) Rent and pay somebody elses mortgage
    2) Buy, pay your own mortgage, and in a few years take the next step up the ladder..

I know which one I would choose.

Anti renters always rattle on about paying rent is like throwing money away. But what's the difference between paying £6K in rent a year or paying £6K a year in mortgage interest on a £100K mortgage @ 6% (if you can get 6% these days). Plus the fact that when you own you have to pay buildings insurance, repairs, mortgage application fee every time you remortgage etc etc.

The money you save on that by renting you can put into some other investment, and by renting you can avoid tying up your capital.

    Good on you.
I had a similar idea last year when a property purchase fell through and threw a large chunk of my deposit by way of some expensive Stuttgart automotive metal.

Now I'm looking to go back into the property market. Yes I've lost a large sum of money to use as deposit and yes, house prices have risen in that time. But I've had fun, and fun that will mean a lot more to me in years to come than whether I could afford that conservatory or not.

Thanks ALL! Like your idea Guy, always wanted to live in a mud hut somewhere and be a complete hippy, also looking into some vountary work for a few months abroad. I have my health and freedom, I'd like to give something back to the poorer ppl in the world who aren't so lucky.

For those who say 'go for it' Thank you very much!
For those who say don't, well thank you also, but it's one piece of advice I'm not listening to this time..... who knows, maybe I'll get a taste for eating hats in the future? but the present is what's important.

At the end of the day (yeah it gets dark) ... I wish no malice on anyone. I do wish property prices were cheaper, but they aren't, so I'm making the most of what I've got in other ways.

    Cheerio!

Hi Bobbie, I did consider that too, but can't think of anything I particularly wanted to do. Plus my first degree was hard slog! if I wanted to study again, I'd choose something a bit more easier and fun.
