There does seem to be a huge number of drivers who, if they are turning right a mile or two further ahead, will happily bung up the right-hand lane of a dual carriageway at around 40mph for the full distance.
These are far worse than the middle lane hoggers as they are openly encouraging people to undertake.
The problem is, if you don't undertake you end up causing a hazard yourself as people snake past you.
This road is basically a motorway, so no right turns from start to finish. The driver was obviously just completely clueless.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Where does it say that? And why would they drive like that if they knew?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Because they believe that they have "Right of Way"
"Right of Way" is a totem that absolves you from any and all responsibility when you drive.
Run over someone crossing the road? "I had Right of Way"
Scratched the paint on a 40 tonner that uses your lane to get round a 90 degree bend "I had Right of Way!"
Head on collision on a straight road "I had Right of Way!"
Smashed into a car that "suddenly" pulled out of a junction, that you could see half a mile away? "I had Right of Way!"
I bet the emergency services hear that a lot whilst cutting people out of cars
It is incumbent on all drivers to take whatever action is required to avoid an accident if at all possible, if you don't 50:50 is a good result.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Your horn is used to warn other road users of your presence. This is exactly what the OP did.0 -

Answer........
Oh sure, because men never use the wrong lane at roundabouts.
The one local to me I correctly use the left lane to go straight ahead (it's two lanes in, one lane out at every exit) and have to be especially vigilant looking for people trying to exit into the side of my car and avoiding being alongside anyone as I near the exit as it happens all the time. Men and women in all kinds of cars are just as bad for it.
There are no direction arrows on the road and the roundabout is a textbook example with the two roads perpendicular to each other so the HC advice very much applies.
OP: Not much you can do about this except never be alongside someone on a roundabout.0 -

Really?Strider590 wrote: »I encounter these a lot, mostly the one's that cut the racing line across the roundabout though, causing me to mount the roundabout in RH lane.... I lean on the horn and they unleash a barrage of abuse. It just makes no sense at all!!!
I had your exact situation when driving the Westfield some years back, it was at this point I realised the compressor for my airhorns had seized
People cannot admit they did wrong.
Would that be a short or long horn warning?0 -

If you are going straight on, and there are no direction arrows, it is correct to use any lane as you approach the roundabout. I seem to remember from my driving lessons to use the "most appropriate" lane, which could well be the one with the shortest queue.0 -

In my driving lessons I was always taught the 12 o'clock rule. If the exit is at 12 o'clock or earlier, use the left lane, if it's after 12 o'clock use the right lane. As the exit is only a single lane not two I'd argue that jumping into the other lane is not really appropriate.
If you're going to do it to queue jump then fair enough (though sometimes that lane is the longer queue) but if you're doing that you should be looking out for other people, not them having to look out for you.0
