How often to see partner
Comments

I'm old-fashioned here in that it seems strange to me that someone is a partner but you don't even live together.
Personally it wouldn't have suited me but if it works for you then that's fine.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I'm not sure this is 'old fashioned'. People have been in marriages and lived apart throughout history.0 -

Rarely I would say and certainly I've never known a married couple who live apart. :eek:Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Lots of couples dont live together and for various reasons, nothing to do with being old fashioned or not as the case may be0 -

Not rarely at all. Military situations, many work ones. (Both traveling and situations where there was a county home and a London one). People who travelled to work building railroads etc. seasonal labouring Its not a historical anomaly.0 -

As I said it's personal choice but not something I've ever come across. I definitely see it as a modern thing.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

The military is a very specific case and on leave they would return home. Also going away for a period to work and then coming back. I don't really think though that is what the thread is about.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

My mother got a job abroad (middle east) while my dad was still working over here. She was away for around 48 weeks of the year.
My husband often works away when required. He's away from Sunday night to Friday night. If working in Europe he's usually away for 3-4 weeks at a time. He did 4 months in the States within our first year of marriage.
Women are much more independent nowadays - we don't need a fella around 24/7.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

If that suits then fine. It wouldn't be for me and my husband at all.
I do know a couple where he had to work abroad and only got home at the weekends and they hated it and he considered moving the family so as to be together. In the end he resigned and got a job which meant no working away and is much happier. It was a difficult time for everyone concerned.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Working for a period and coming back? But a fair few of us here are describing our routine weekly/ monthly pattern not of away and coming back for a while but regularly seeing each other three nights a week OR less. This does not make our relationships less about partnership.0
