Tailgate and speed

This is a post regards not only speed but tailgating.
I stick to the speed limit but certain drivers still sit on my boot, why?
A few months ago my old car was written off due to someone tailing me and not able to use the brakes quick enough.
I will NOT speed up and if you hit me because of tailgating me I will report it.
Even on motorways, doing 70 mph in the first lane drivers sit on my boot and even lorry drivers, flashing their lights, !!!!!!?
If you want to break the speed limit theres two other lanes, overtake but don't attempt to push drivers along and encourage speeding.
One guy over took me the other day on a 50 road, I was doing 50, then slammed his brakes on, lucky I keep a good distance unlike many drivers can't say.
There are children in many cars this time of year, quit with the CRAP driving!!!

How can a lorry limited to 56 sit on your boot at 70?0

Very good question, like those vans with stickers stating its limited to "60 mph" but doing nearer 70.
The amount of bad driving I've seen this year seriously concerns me, I hope they don't increase the motorway speed, ever.
Most can't do 70 safely, overtaking and pulling right in front on the motorway without leaving a space, very dangerous.0 -
There is no fast lane. Keep to the left hand lane unless overtaking.
I was on the M6 heading down to the M1 today. So many cars in the middle lane with an empty nearside lane.
Guy overtook you and then slammed his brakes on.. I am guessing there is more to that than you have mentioned.
Hand signals or brake testing him?

Is there any chance your speedometer is broken? I regularly drive at an indicated 60 mph on the inside lane on motorways (for fuel economy) and have never been tail gated by a lorry or anything else, and not been flashed either.
You didn't pull in/out just in front of a lorry did you? I could see them flashing then.0 -
If you regularly get HGVs tailgating you while you think you're doing 70 then your speedometer is crap. Most over-read by a few mph, but if it's overrreading by 14mph you want to get it checked.0

Gonna say it - Troll.
Talking absolute bs, lorries doing 70 and flashing their lights?! You sir/madam sound like the kind of stupid driver who causes accidents.0 -

I certainly don't condone tailgating or reckless driving but it does sound like your speedo may be seriously over reading. Speedos are allowed to over read by up to 10%. If yours is right on the 10% limit, you could think that you are driving at 50 mph but actually be moving at only 45 mph. At an indicated 70 mph, your true speed may only be 63 mph.
Of course, if it is faulty, it could be under reading by more than 10%.
It could explain why following drivers are, apparently, getting so frustrated with your driving.
Another alternative is that this just another troll posting.0 -
I don't do motorway driving but if I did I would be inclined to retrofit some sort of contraption in my rear to ward people off. It seems that tailgating is very common?
On my golf, it's possible to remove the rear windscreen washer cap and pull out the nozzle - then it squirts straight back rather than direct it onto the rear window. Some people have used that as an anti tailgate device as it squirts washer onto the car behind.0 -

I drive at the speed limit on all roads, provided conditions allow..... I'm almost never tailgated. It's so rare I can count the number of times in the last 15 years on one hand.
Lorries are restricted to 56mph, so unless there's something VERY wrong, your either not doing 70 or these trucks have somehow been derestricted (which i've never heard of).
OP are you sure your speedo is reading correctly?
Is it in KMPH? (at 70 km, you'd be dong 43mph)
Are you reading the KMPH instead of MPH?
Has someone fitted under sized after market wheels to your car?
I suggest there is something very seriously wrong here.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Wow, must be a day for idiot drivers posting stupid ideas.
So you've modified your car, without telling your insurer no doubt, and then caused an accident? Which you'll then be paying out of your own pocket for? and on top of that, the police will have some question for you no doubt.
You dont drive on the motorway? thank christ for that! - though funny how you have an opinion on it? - actually its just a shame you're allowed to drive at all.0
