Listening to your body is important. Whenever I feel that way, but think "I'm gonna push myself to do it", I can't push hard enough, end up failing, feeling rubbish about it etc etc.

If you're not up for it, you're not up for it, get yourself feeling better, then you'll be happier when you go out and more likely to keep doing it long-term.

When you start making running an activity of misery you're less likely to keep it up...

I really wish I had room for a treadmill, then I could train a few times a week.

Any treadmill i could ever afford in my budget wouldn't be able to withstand the labours of my running on it!!

what about finding a gym with a creche attached snags, so you n Tash can go while Ryan is at school?

Thanks hun but there aren't any near here and I can't afford one really to be honest.

I did wonder about a very very cheap (probably off ebay) folding treadmill, but I don't know if it would just end up becoming an elaborate clothes airer. :o

yeah, i know whatcha mean..... priorities hun.

A cheap treadmill is probably a false economy babes... but i'm no expert and maybe i think it cause i am heavy it wouldn't take my weight! you won't have that problem!

If you can only fit in 1 run a week, then make sure there are 2-3 other sessions of activity of some kind to keep your fitness up, and the running should keep at a steady level.. as you said though to get to 10k you maybe need more sessions, but you progress pretty fast, so plenty time to work on that after xmas... maintaining 5k is your aim for now.....

And anyway, noone says you can't run 5k, have a 5 min walk break and run another 5k on the day!!! i would put your name down for it, when is it? I might come down too!!!???

Hi Sammy - can I let you know early next week? I need to make sure I get the all clear to carry on running first, but I'm pretty sure I'll be okay to do it.

I'm only managing to run once a week at the moment though, so it's going to be a bit of a task getting to 10k standard. I really wish I had room for a treadmill, then I could train a few times a week.

No worries - let me know..would be great to do.....

I am only managing once a week myself at the minute and feel a bit of a fraud..but my stress levels are through the roof trying to fit everything in. Well meaning people tell me that running will help me cope with the stress, but as a part time single parent its hard to fit running in around full time work, part time self employment and studying...:rotfl:

what i also meant to say is that I hate treadmill running and feel it would become another clothes horse...believe me I have had a succession of such clothes horses through my bedroom...

Don't worry about the supposed max HR, chickadee - it is only theoretical.

Some of the Tour De France riders, who are usually about 30, are often seen with pulses over 200 during racing which, in theory, would be 105+ % of max HR.

So its only a rough rule of thumb and nothing more.

I take it you didn't pop after all then? :p

No I didn't pop, and I feel fine today. In fact, I felt great last night too (hence why I was posting on here so late).

Providing the doctor says it's okay (and she seems pretty convinced there's nothing wrong with my heart other than it's broken :o), I will definitely sign up for it - I can manage 5k without too much of a problem now, and think I could probably do 7k on a nice June day with no icy wind - so if I can keep that up, if I have to walk part of it, it's no big deal - it's all for charity after all.
