Thanks Rich for that reassurance. When I checked my HR I thought I was about to pop! I'll keep on monitoring it and as I get used to it I'm sure I'll start to understand more about it in relation to the effort I feel I am putting in.
Don't worry about the supposed max HR, chickadee - it is only theoretical.
Some of the Tour De France riders, who are usually about 30, are often seen with pulses over 200 during racing which, in theory, would be 105+ % of max HR.
So its only a rough rule of thumb and nothing more.
I take it you didn't pop after all then?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

morning folks... i'm worried.......Getting better but am still coughing and sniffely from this cold and runclub starts back tomorrow night.... haven't had club for 2 weeks (they were off) and i missed a week before that due to hols(altho i did squeeze a run in) so i don't feel i can legitamately skip another week.. i'm going to find it hard going anyways due to lack of runs in that time.
But i know in my heart of hearts that i am not fit for this run... and it will only depress me if i go and have a rubbish one.....
someone agree with me please and confirm my decision....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Maz hunny, if you are not well, you need to recover first. You might not have been running, but you have been going for walks and stuff - could you do that again tomorrow night, and then go back to running when you are fully better?
BTW, I've always had a pretty low resting heart rate, but when I was at the doctors the other day, it was 84  - anyone reckon I'm stressed??!!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Thanks snags - i know what you're saying about recovering and i would be saying the same to anyone else!
Have just called the jog leader woman, she too is very sick and is not running herself altho the group is still on, loads os people off sick at the moment.... she says take another week off, get fully better, so that is the plan.
I will take your advice also about doing a walk instead as it will help. (snags, you sounded like Rich there! lol!!!) Last night i could feel all sundays walking in my leg muscles, so worthwhile doing.
Am paying my subs for the next block of runclub, so am commited and will see how it makes me feel motivationally and see if i can see any more improvements.....
Snags - it's understandable your heart rate is up, your mind must be in constant overdrive, hope you're doing alright babes?
I haven't been swimming for 10 days... if i'm not careful i will lose my sealegs!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

Haven't got time to go back and read all the thread...Snags entries have opened up for the Leeds 10k - do you want to do it.. I need to make a decision as to whether to enter or not.. believe it or not my next year is looking busy already.:eek:Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Listening to your body is important. Whenever I feel that way, but think "I'm gonna push myself to do it", I can't push hard enough, end up failing, feeling rubbish about it etc etc.
If you're not up for it, you're not up for it, get yourself feeling better, then you'll be happier when you go out and more likely to keep doing it long-term.
When you start making running an activity of misery you're less likely to keep it up...0 -

I'm only managing to run once a week at the moment though, so it's going to be a bit of a task getting to 10k standard. I really wish I had room for a treadmill, then I could train a few times a week."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
