ok back from run, I never seem to be able to complete a fartlek session, think i am a natural born plodder and my body doesn't like speed
Anyway managed 3 miles in 26.55 average 8.51m/m but also had my fastest ever mile 8.44
so not all bad I guess.
errrrr 'scuse me mrs sally!!
Can i have a word in your shell-like.... nowhere in the world does 8:44 min mile constitute a plod!!!
Stop belittling your efforts babes!
No runclub for me tonight as it's off for 2 weeks so think i will have to force myself out in the dark around my village.... haven't got an early swim this week either as erin is coming into town with me in the mornings for out of school club. did swim 3 times last week though, and will certainly go swimming with erin again this week....
However i have got a verruca, which i've never had in my life before, i'm blaming the pool in wrexham, have treated it but will need a sock thingy before i can swim again really as don't want to infect everyone else.... unlike the selfish b who didn't think the same in wrexham!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Morning everyone
Well I did get out there last night and did my 'speed' session with the club. Well, I moved faster than normal but most of the members had finished by the time I and my running mate had started our final lap
It was 6 x 1000 with 300m recovery and I did the whole lot this time :T . I don't know how long each lap took as I'd forgotten my watch, but it was noticeable that everybody ran slower this week than last week. Still we all did it and that's what matters :j
Hobsch, I'll take a look in my local opticians the next time I'm passing. Thanks.
Becky, I'm looking forward to opening that bottle next Saturday. It's to go towards my holiday as I have very little spending money for the 5 weeks I'm away. I've been saving 50p and £2 coins since January and it's gotten so bad at times that I've been known to take money out the ATM rather than use either coin in my purseeven if it meant going into overdraft!
Cycled to work this morning and have to go out this evening so no running. Aiming to do hills on Thursday and run on Friday instead. The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -

I think you have proved otherwise, Sally!
Look at the numbers and ask yourself whether you thought you might be posting numbers like 8-44 a few weeks ago?
If you achieve something in a session that you've never achieved before you should be dancing for joy!
I'll guarantee one thing - you'll be running a lot quicker by April if you keep doing the sessions as your muscles learn.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Dead right, Poor.
Even if you do a relatively slow 6x1000m session, in comparison to what you've done before, you are still moving considerably quicker than your target marathon pace. It is bound to feed in to making your race pace feel more comfortable so well done.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Morning all, Pilates was excellent last night but have lost so much strength and flexibility. One of the woman saw me running down to the pool and already thinks I'm mad!
It was great though as I was warm to do the exercises and then got home quickly too, I refuse to use the car for such a short distance.
Rest day today but have walked dd to school then went for a 3 mile walk with baby to stretch off legs.
I hate early mornings so it would be a miracle to see me out running before 9am!0 -

What I was trying to say though Maz is that running at that pace nearly killed me (im not joking!) and I was supposed to do another mile on top of that which I just couldn't do.
My plod pace is far more suited to me that the pace I was going today!
Hope your verruca goes quickly maz...they are a nightmare. I once had one that spread and spread all over my big toe. Then one morning I woke up and it had gone overnight...
Now you be careful running in the dark on your own Mrs...I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I was happy with that time but just need to be able to keep up that pace for a little bit longer..5 mile fartlek next week and not sure I will make it :eek:I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

erm... running has been superceded by taking erin to see high school musical 3.... bad runner! but good mummy!!
sally - you're forgiven!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Sally - I dont know what coach would say about this - but I thought the point of fartlek was to push yourself but still do the distance - so if you're tiring out before the end of the 4 miles then slow the fast bits down a little or take longer between each - its not supposed to be killing yourself all 4 miles its supposed to be fun!
And you're bound to find it hard two days after 10 mile run - so dont worry - it will get easier!0 -
I thought that fartlek was to increase your pace for a certain distance, then ease off, then increase again?
e.g. this was on a certain running website 'Here’s how a typical fartlek session would work. After a steady warm-up, simply pick a landmark – for example a tree, lamp-post, or phone box – and run to it hard, then jog until you’ve recovered. Then pick another landmark, run hard to that, recover and so on.'0
