Fantastic and very, very brisk walks over the last 4 days and felt great in all. One wet, but the last 2 were dry and cool and ideal weather for it, each time finishing with a fairly good run for the last 1/2 mile. Looking to up that soon.

    Keep enjoying it all.

HWGA - I hope you feel much better today and that you can soon get shot of that tooth, though they hate taking any out these days, but then they aren't the ones that have to live with them when they're painful now ....are they!!!!

I have to raise £1600 which is a lot of money, given the current economic climate! But because Mencap actually means something to me I think that will spur me on..........:D

Gosh that is a lot but Im sure you can do it. They will give you loads of ideas im sure. I know my sister did a coffee morning type thing and invited loads of sellers of things like phoenix cards/pampered Chef/Avon and asked them to donate 10% of their sales. Invited lots of friends and friends of friends and did quite well.

I would like to start a discussion on vitamins.

Ok I am aware of the argument that you should eat properly and the taking of them should not be an excuse not to. However if you are engaging in something like the marathon and training regularly and hard you probably need more. If you are training for 10ks it may be slightly different.

Anyway I have just purchased Wellman Vitamins. Some people in my club swear by them and they are marketed to sports people. Is this just a marketing angle though? What does everyone think about vitamins?

    A very good question.

Vitamins are required for metabolic reactions but, through evolution, the body has lost the genes to synthesize them internally.

They, therefore, have to be ingested in some way.

The usual, and cheapest, way to do this is through normal food. As exercise levels increase nutrition normally improves, through a more finely honed appetite, and therefore the intake of vitamins usually improves markedly. Excess vitamins are expelled through urine.

Unless there is a pre-determined medical reason for taking vitamin supplements, there is no reason to spend money for performance enhancement even in athletes training several hours per day in multi-discipline events.

However, the sporting market is potentially much larger than the medical market for supplement manufacturers and they, therefore, devote a high percentage of their marketing budgets to encourage take up.

phew that was hard work today...think its because im lacking in energy going at 9am having not eaten since 6ish the night before. I did have a banana but not sure that made any difference.
Anyway a reasonable run but legs heavy 6 miles 1:00"47 so just over the 10 min mile.
right must get in the shower getting cold and I stink

    That sounds just fine, Sally.

As you know the speed doesn't matter and the heavy legs (compare with Becky, same feeling at the same time!) just shows that the legs are in the middle of improving....so mission accomplished.

Just keep putting in the raw material and the end product of faster and more enjoyable runs comes out of the other end.

    Well done.
