I am really pleased. I think this is the better option for me as it a fresh challange.“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
Just phoned DS who is home from school to check the post. I have not got a place in London but my OH has. I'm kind of gutted really, as he got into the Great North in the ballot and i was rejected, which left me begging a charity place. I'm certainly not going for a charity place again. As peeps have said, the targets for London are so high it is another marathon just raising the money.
I know it is supposed to be the luck of the draw but i can't help thinking that the forecast finishing time has a lot to do with it. OH is a much faster runner than me so he would be finishing London in about 3 hours, when the finish area is less congested. When I would be finishing, 4h 30m-ish if I'm lucky, the finish area is very busy. I'm sure that for H&S reasons the organisers need to keep the runners flowing, rather than having bottle-necks. Maybe those runners predicting 5h 30m when the bulk of finishers are through have a better chance of being successful than the average joe mid-pack runner?
Oh well, I might have a look at Blackpool or Edinburgh instead.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Has anyone got a place yet??0 -
If you are interested in Edinburgh chickadee I would do it now. Lots of people rejected from London will be thinking the same thing. I have just secured a place so there are definately places now. I just googled Edinburgh Marathon“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0

Hi there cnoelj,
I'll have to have a chat with OH and a think about it before I rush into entering for Edinburgh. I'm getting married on 20th June and don't know if I'll be taking on too much in the run-up to what may be quite a sressful period anyway. On reflection, although I am still disappointed about London I may stick with doing the odd half next year and go in for the Virgin London Marathon in 2010.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Marathons can be quite stressful. Half marathons are great and dont need so much commitment. Although I havent done any really serious training recently I know that I could be ready to do a fairly decent half marathon in a month. For a full marathon I could not really get away with less than 16 weeks concentrated training. There is plenty of time. Just do what is right for you at this moment.“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
I will come and cheer you all on too
