Is there a real possibility that Natwest will go under too then?? I just find it amazing how quickly things have deteriorated.

I grabbed the last dregs of the decent fixed rates about a year ago, so I've got 2 years before we need to panic.

But I'm just about to build an extension (no choice, DS needs the extra space and it's something I wont compromise on for him), and I really don't know whether to pay a fortune for a rubbish fixed rate, or risk svr....eek!

Yes, because (except for the mutuals) they are all inter-dependent on lending each other money. One goes and a domino effect start.

Bailouts can only go on so far and the US govt has got no more bail-outs left in it. Its already taken on the world's 2 biggest mortgage companies and the world's biggest insurer. So much so, that at the weekend they had to let the world's biggest bank go under and it hardly made the news.

The UK govt can't rescue RBS, it would have to find a buyer and its running out of those!

Snaggles its a hard decision...bit like choosing a capped rate gas/electric for me...its all a gamble (hardly in the same ball park but has made a huge difference to my monthly payments)

That's about right, you wont notice much except the chaos around you. Its just people being hysterical so ignore 'em. :p

You might notice quite a few things getting more expensive though.

You are a font of knowledge Rich...what do you do for a job?? (sorry being nosey!)

So doesn't look good really does it. My only pleasure in all of this is that I live in hope that house prices go down so much that I can afford to buy us a little place to live :)

No Royal Bank of Scotland is a different bank to Bank of Scotland(which is part of HBOS).
