  • Evening all...........

    Rich, thanks for the proposal....

maybe we need to approach martin himself and check out whether we are okay to use this place as a base... otherwise we may have to chat here but do our club business on Facebook or something...? which doesn't appeal to me much........

Had a most excellent swimming lesson tonight... not bad front crawl tonight, in fact teacher just told me "excellent, keep doing what you're doing" while she went off and coached the others 1-2-1... then she told me to do lengths which i found exhausting!!! lengths of crawl are very tiring!

we also did some back stroke and some pre-diving... pre diving involved trying to clear a long float by sort of jumping and swimming over it, and the best bit.... doing handstands!! not quite sure what the logic of that was, something to do with getting your pike right (??). as someone who could barely put her face in the water 4 weeks ago, certainly not without holding my nose, to be doing handstands underwater is such an achievement to me!....... erin will be so proud of me when she sees that!!

    I am a swimming goddess!!

We have a nomination for Club Mermaid!

It sounds like a good workout all in all, although theres a few phrases there that are completely new to me! I take it this is staying as a regular feature in your fitness regime then?

In terms of contacting Martin, I was going to re some sort of afilliate fee share until I found out how difficult it is to actually make contact. At the end of the day there is nothing to object to though. The purpose of the forum from MSE's point of view is to keep huge numbers of people coming to the site so that when they want to switch financial/utility providers MSE cops for a cut. We are helping that process by getting more visits.

So I can't see a problem, and the old rule is don't make a problem that may well not exist in the first place. The threads here - Martin can read it anytime he wants but I think he will be quite impressed to be honest.

  • The swimming lessons are only for 3 more weeks then off for the October holidays. Then there will be another set on the run up to Xmas.... i think i will keep going after october... i suppose i will suss out big G and see if he is okay with my absenteeism........

As long as i am learning i will keep going.. and swimming has always been something i've done at least once a week, but as i'm doing it twice a week now i really hope to feel the benefits... plus i'm doing it so much more effectively so it should be making a real difference....

    personally handstands are my highlight!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Hi everyone, wow you have all been busy! Hello to everyone old and new - just an update on the ol' got to run a 10k in a week...did 8.5k on tues and 10k last night!! Very pleased with myself as have never managed that long on a treadmill before. Did a respectable time of 1hr 12 mins so fingers crossed for next week.

I was thinking about the bits you mentioned on organising the club - I work in advertising and do a lot of web 'bits'. Would be happy to set up a mini-site - so we can list our events, etc, maybe slap a bit of advertising on it from affiliates. If it is an external site, just for reference stuff, shouldnt infringe any copywriting things from this site. Just an idea - wouldnt be thinking anything groundbreaking, just a simple place to upload photo's, training tips, etc. Would need to check hosting and URL.

Obviously still use the lovely forum for catching up with each other as usual.

Let me know your thoughts - not really a nomination, just wanted to throw it out there!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Morning all, just checking in.

Did a 3.44 mile run yesterday, the last one before the 10k...managed it in 8:01 minute mile average, which I was chuffed to bits with (and that included stopping to give someone directions) - I wasn't *completely* shot by the end of it, either...so I think a good tail wind on the way back Sunday and I might be able to hold something like that pace the whole way, which would be awesome.

What's everyone's running plans for the weekend?

    Morning Idio
Thats a great time to be running...thats my aspiration that one day I maybe able to run an 8 min mile! Sure on the day with all the adrenaline pumping you will be able to maintain that pace.

Not sure I will be running this weekend as I still have a horrendous sore throat and am doing as im told (by Rich!). If I feel better I would love to do an 8 mile run at the weekend though.

Good Luck for your race if you don't manage to get back on here before then

Not much to add really, must do some study this morning and an hours blitz tidying of the house.

Mazaroola that is fab about the swimming, what a transformation from not putting your face in the water to doing headstands...you are an inspiration my sweet! Oh and you have to get Big G to let you go again next term!

Thanks very much Angela. If I tell everyone I'm going to be doing it, then I wont be able to back out, even though I can't actually enter yet.

So I have until spring to get myself ready for it.....eek! I've never done anything like that in my entire life.

Not a problem! Feel free to post with training progress - I did my first 5k last year, it is such a great atmosphere, everyone cheers you on and it keeps you moving. The site has training plans to get you started, but I have a good one I found a while ago - PM if you would like me to forward it on to you.
  • Morning :)

Maz, the swimming sounds great - that's amazing progress (am with you on the 'can't put face in water' thing, I swim with my head sticking up, doesn't help that I can't see without my glasses so have to wear them :o).. well done you!

Good luck for the race Idio! :T

Planning to run tonight and then Sunday, just go out and see how it goes really.

    Hi Angela,

It sounds like you're going just fine for next week - you can obviously run the distance and Hampton Court should be about as flat as a treadmill (unless you know differently of course!). So you should feel confident on that start line.

In terms of the web stuff offer - absolutely brilliant! I was hoping we'd have a webby person in the ranks. Like you say though it doesn't need any whizzy styling or search engine optimization or anything like that - just in effect a filing cabinet where we can keep a few things so we don't lose them! Plus the afilliate links to generate a few pennies.

So therefore it is a nomination - just got to think of what the role will be?
