DFW Running Club!!

I think it should include:
Updates of meets and events that members are running in
Blogs (for whoever wants one)
Affiliate links to make some dough for the club
Photo gallery for members to post on.
Links to useful sites.
Reckon some kinda FAQs could be handy, too...Just simple things "what should I wear to run in?" "how should I get started running?" "what are these sorbawotsis roddy keeps going on about?" etc...with straightforward answers from the coach0 -

Club is also coming on nicely - good one Sally and ROD :T
As a legal bod, I would be more than happy to do a role that complements that. Not sure what it would be.. 'general pain the !!!!' is normally about right.
On a more lol note, got asked last night if I would like to start teaching pole dancing as instructors don't really want to cover my area and are looking to 'recruit' new instructors. Worryingly you don't need to be qualified to teach pole, but they insist on Level 2 fitness instructor (which is good, shows they are 'proper'). Anyhow going to start my training asap. Then maybe I could have the committee role of official 'entertainer' lmao!:p

I think you'll find it difficult to find Poles to practise on soon - they've had enough and want to go home!
As a legal bod you could be useful in terms of the various disclaimers needed on a website to cover our 'arrises. Not that anyone ever says anything libellous of course but if you could make sure we're not laying ourselves open to anything that would be good.
As for club rules and such like I don't think there is any legal documentation involved - its all very informal for an unincorporated association, but if you know differently that would also be useful.
So thanks for the offer - you're a star!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

OK, maybe getting ahead of myself a bit here, but we should think about whether we want to make the site publicly accessible e.g. by submitting the link to google etc. or whether we want to keep it in the family (as it were)...Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

There's no problem with letting the spiders get hold of it and give it page rankings but no active promotion to the outside world would be needed. (I've got an allergy against emptying my pockets into Google's coffers these days after spending £2k per month for a long while!).
Google adsense is usually a waste of time as well - pays peanuts and provides poor links. Far better to set up your own afilliate links.
But yes theres no problem with submitting to the various search engines - if it develops into a useful site for outsiders later it could become quite lucrative but that wouldn't be the initial purpose.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I agree, I wouldn't expect there to be much in the way of legal issues at all, but a disclaimer is always a good idea, particularly if there are going to be any form of 'tips' on the site.
Sadly we live in a culture where there is always someone at fault if an indiviudal gets injured through their own stupidity. Best to be covered.0 -

Thats so very true.
We've got 2 householders in our area being sued by Tesco delivery drivers because they tripped up on their driveways. Nothing wrong with the driveways, just clumsy delivery drivers - but just shows you can get stupid claims coming from the most unexpected directions. It was a little suspicious that both these drivers had the same legal representation.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

That sort of thing really winds me up  as I don't actually work in personal injury (phew) I only tend to see the company end of it, but the level of protection that even basic activities require these days has just got silly.
Anyhow, rant of the day over!!
Does anyone have any great things planned for the weekend?0 -

Novice was exactly the word i would have used for myself,..... it's amazing the progress in 4 weeks...
Re the club thing... i'd be keen for the website to be a closed shop really and access to it one of the priviliges of membership.... there is plenty free advice out there open to everyone afterall....
Even if the homepage was open to everyone to explain what we do and why etc... but everything else was greyed out and members only access? is that do-able?
Plus if we limit it to members only then we can cover any liability within the terms of membership and we won't need public liability disclaimers etc....Poodlecrazy wrote: »Does anyone have any great things planned for the weekend?
No great plans for the weekend...
saturday is Erin's swimming lesson at 1030, she has an eye check up at 1130, she has arts n crafts class at 1400 for 2 hours, so i will probably catch up with housework...... and i will be going to bingo at night.
Run on sunday am - swim later on, if i can convince ernie! but she's not up for swimming on a sunday now she has lessons on a saturday.... pah!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

It's certainly do-able. A login/registration box on the front page is all that's required, which would unlock the rest of the site.Plus if we limit it to members only then we can cover any liability within the terms of membership and we won't need public liability disclaimers etc....
P.S. Perhaps we should have certain parts like info about the club (and affiliate links!) viewable by all, while keeping photo galleries, blogs etc. hidden to all but members.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0
