How about we all commit to each other to find an event in the next six weeks to two months Set ourselves a realistic but challanging goal and keep each other informed of training progress and how we get on on the day.

This will help with motivation and to know that there are other nutcases out there who are supportive and interested.

Must run - off to my running club

Good idea, I have an idea of a 10km I fancy doing, I will have a look and post back if I see anything.

The thing about running as well is it really solves stress. I find that even if I set out in a really really bad mood I come back feeling so much better and rational :j

There is a running club near me but I have to admit to being a bit scared about joining it incase I can't keep up - do you have to pay?

I would love to do the london Marathon in a DFW team! maybe martin could join in :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have signed up for Race for life and it is...........ummmmmm...............................sometime in July!!!

I started my training this week. I have run three times on the treadmill for 15 mins (its a start I suppose!) I can't do thirty mins at the same speed (sorry Lenny I would find it boring!). I do jog run jog run bursts. I also find that better for fat burning.

I want to be one of them skinny !!!!!es who makes running look so effortless!!

I also struggle to get to the gym so I think I should pluck up the courage to pound the streets:T

Well, whilst I'm away, I will be doing 30 mins each day on the treadmill - a fat burning jog at 6mph. I will do abs everyday and light weights everyother day. Every day for 9 weeks bar maybe Sundays.

    Yeah.....I'll do that too.....:o

Maybe we should ask Martin to let us have some "DFW Running Club" T-Shirts with his photo on the back :rotfl:

I've just e-mailed a running club to see how much membership, but I am a little scared of going to the training, I might just get deserted somewhere if I'm too slow

i share your fear! been running for a couple of years but always been on my own. i am sure that any decent running club wouldn't leave a newbie stranded though

Hi all, fantastic to see so many responses.

I'm definately up for the plan of finding an event, even for the less fit for a fun run or something and sharing stories and training hints and occasional pitiful excuses why we just couldn't be Ar**ed to get off the sofa!! (know i'll be the one with the most excuses i just know it!!)

Black angel you're a legend, used to have a subscription to it...then money happened... or didn't happen... you know what i mean. :o

Don't worry about joining local running clubs, they should have a newbies group or should run to the pace of the slowest. don't believe that you'd be abandoned!!:rotfl:

DFW running club tee shirts!!!:T :T

In all seriousness anyone whos up for next years marathon, the ballot opens in august. for those who don't get in enter via a charity. I'd be more than happy to set something up for a group of us if required.

Happy exercising people, take it slow and don't hurt yourselves!!!

I've just taken up running about 8 weeks ago actually. I'm extremely unfit and even found a couch potato regime too difficult.

I can now walk/jog 3.5km, but only 1km of that is jogging :o

With only 6 weeks to go until my race for life and I'm a little concerned. At the moment I'm doing the 3.5km in 41 minutes (I could probably walk it faster!!)

My routine is trying to get out every other day, so it works out 7 times training over 2 weeks. But I'm struggling to fit it in somedays due to work and other commitments such as having to cook dinner and go food shopping.

My next run is tomorrow. Aiming to do the 3.5km a little faster than 41 minutes. I want to increase the distance each week by 0.5km. Not sure how achievable that is for me, so I'm really just playing it by ear.

Good luck to everybody with your up and coming races.

Hey there helping_hubby. Just stick here and we'll give you loads of support.
one suggested method is to either have your running kit right next to your bed in the morning, get up pop it on go downstairs and boil the kettle, put your trainers on and make a cuppa. drink it walking to the end of the drive/garden gate put it down and run.
or:- have kit waiting when you walk through the front door. Stop and change turn around and go straigh tback out the door again. This is the one i use and it's amazing how quickly the routine is established.
What you want to do IS acheivable, you just have to believe it.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!
