  • Morning you lot.. welcome along Molly and good luck with your plans :) Well done on the swimming Maz! I actually had a passing thought last night that I'd get up and run this morning but as I didn't get to sleep till past 2am that didn't happen.. feel cr*p.. but the 'nipplies' made me laugh :rotfl:

    Morning all!

    Welcome Molly,

You'll find runners of all levels of ability here, the more the merrier. Loads of useful advice as well, especially from Rich, who has had professional-level training/advice at some stage I believe! Take it easy to start with, run for 500m, then jog very lightly for 500m. Repeat! You'll soon be upping the distance and speed and Rich can suggest a "real" training plan for you. Good luck!

Now my update, I posted my 6.8K this morning, like a good boy. It was dark when I got up, which is tough, but it's nice to see the sun rising on a morning run. My plan is to keep that up 2-3 times a week to keep me ticking over at the magic "over 4 mile" distance. I'll leave any planing/training for the half marathon until I'm back from honeymoon!

Hope you're all doing well. Keep up the swimming Maz, you'll be surprised how soon you'll be doing 40 lengths (time permitting) once your body gets more used to the movements.

P.S. I'm currently pacing at about 5'10" so really need to up the pace a bit to get back under 5. Saying that, I have been doing hillier routes lately...

I had to look at the screen twice then. And then it clicked you were talking about kms not miles. :p

Pace is 100% irrelevant right now. Just knock out miles in blocks over 4 miles and you'll be getting all the improvement you need. Go too fast and you slow the improvement down because you go above the 70% maximum oxygen uptake level. Above this level your mitochondria development slows down as your body works on other things.

Just enjoy the morning sunrises and don't worry about pace - you've got enough to stress about right now (according to Maz! :p).

Watching the sunrise while out running sounds heavenly (as well as knackering lol)
My exercise time is dictated by break times set by the office DOH, so can't see me doing the same "beers" lol
Hope you enjoy them each time, we do forget to notice these things in the rat race the world has become, unfortunately.

  • Rich.... i knew i had a serious question for you....

runchum Rachel has been complaining of a sore shoulder since our 3 mile hilly club run last wednesday night... it cleared after rest but flared up on sunday morning on our not at all hilly run.... Rachel does swim 2 days a week and will have had one swim in between...........

what do you think she might have done to make things hurt in her shoulder.....? Right side only, shoulder blade into mid back...

do you think it just might've been the addition of hills?

The trainer was telling us to lift our heads, and open out our chests.. (no mean feat in a shock absorber bra!) as our natural hill instinct is head down and get to the top!!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
