Rich what sort of mileage do you think I should be aiming for in a week??
Love that stiffness - you worked hard to earn it!
The mileage answer is a 'it depends on what you want to achieve'.
Key components are as important so building up to a 20 mile run by March, which should be run at a pace that means it takes as long as you plan to run the marathon in. This is a 'time on your feet' rehearsal for the big day and takes out one of the unknowns.
50 mpw - Should get you through a marathon relatively comfortably as long as:
a) You have done the long runs in training (3x20miles).
b) You run the first half very cautiously
c) You are prepared to grind it out towards the end.
65 mpw - Will allow you to:
a) Run to a race plan knowing you've got plenty resources in the tank.
b) Be pushing on at the end and concentrating on achieving a time.
c) Have no fear of hitting 'The Wall'.
Plenty people in the race will have done a lot less than this and will get round so there is no definite answer, but this really is one area where preparation repays itself many times over.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Its more to do with being able to focus further ahead and knowing how to trust little building blocks will turn into big achievements, when in the short term they seem insignicant and not worth the effort.
Its known as an 'emotional stabiliser' because day to day ups and downs somehow seem less important and just part of an overall process.
Apologies for that outburst, just some stuff I've been thinking about lately. The Moonwalk training definitely made me better at long term thinking/ planning - we signed up in November/ December and the actual thing was June so it was a long haul thing - something I'm not generally very good at... similar to the paying off debt 'journey' I guess - no instant results!
Becky - the 43 things page sounds interesting!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Gosh 60 mpw is some serious running isn't it. Im not sure that I will be able to fit that amount of running in. Would it be best to build up my distance or speed first or should I combine the 2?
even 50 mpw could be hard to do to be honestI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Did I read somewhere that there is a site where you can plan runs? Does anyone know what it's called please?Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000

You should definitely be concentrating on distance.
Steady running in a pulse range 120-140 bpm will build up the number and size of mitochodria in the muscles which are the 'storage pouches' for energy. By building these up you push 'The Wall' further into the race until eventually you don't hit it at all.
The minimum mileage I have 'got away with' was just over 40 mpw, but the lower the mileage the more unknowns come into the equation.
You will be surprised though how little extra time it takes to move up the mileage. At 30 mpw I am doing 6/7 sessions per week, at 70mpw I'm still doing 6/7 sessions per week. When you consider how much of a session is getting ready/stretching/cooling down/showering etc which is fixed whatever the distance, it really doesn't add that much time. I don't now how Becky manages so many sessions.
PS What mileage have you been doing in the build up for the half Sally?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
