One thing I would say to people doing the run/walk/run thing, personally I find it easier if you don't stop, but slow down to a gentle jog. I find it easier to get going again from that then from "cold". Don't know what rich's thoughts on that are?
Completely agree!
At the end of each run, no matter how easy, you get some level of stiffness or tightness in the muscles. When you stop part way through a run your body naturally thinks its at the end so kicks in to 'repair mode', which involves tightening muscles up to allow the repair process to begin.
All my run/walks are just that, run then walk. You can get restarted and the muscles will slacken off again but, as beer tins says, it is much much easier to just slow down to an extremely slow jog until you feel able to push on again.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Morning all - congrats to Sally by the way! Boy did she look fresh (no fair)...
Well surfice to say my cold has taken hold now so no running this morning...boo... but I'm in Liverpool for a few days from tomorrow and have just plugged in another 9 mile into map my run so hopefully I'll be well enough to get at least one long run in. I'm planning on going out for a short jog this afternoon after work as well maybe 4 miles or so...
Wow Rich you are brave 2.43 thats a bit nuts isnt it! Oh so I timed my 9 miles and it came in at an hour ten (roughly) , which is quite slow but not bad for a first time!
Hope everybodies having fun this week - beinerts its amazing how quickly you slip out of it, but also how quickly it comes back to!!0 -

It's not at all slow, you're going under 5 mins a km over a fair distance. Very respectable indeed.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Best of luck Idio. Might have to enter another 10k if you beat my time (winky smilie).Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

That would mean 2hrs 43 mins in 2010, which seems a little over ambitious right now but may become a tantalising temptation in the months to come. A back burner job for now though!
ROFL...is that really a thing? In my case, that's something like 8 minutes slower than I did my first (only) half marathon...and would mean running 5:30 miles the whole way - faster than my sprint finishes at the moment...
Still, I guess "If you don't have a dream...how can you expect to have a dream come tru-U-ue"0 -

Becky, that is not only NOT quite slow it is very good pace for a first attempt at a 9 miler.
That is roughly the pace of a 1hr 45 half marathon or 3hr 30mins marathon!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
