Well done. You must feel pleased with yourself.

Your comments about the Marshals reminds me of the London Marathon whereby marshals and others start shouting out 'Not far now' after about 18 miles or so. This is the difficult period and is absolutely no help at all when you think that you have another 10k plus to do!

Same with the Moonwalk, the encouragement was great but I don't think anyone should be allowed to shout 'not far now' or 'nearly there' until at least 24 miles! Mind you, I did speak to someone who'd volunteered as a marshal the previous year, and was at one of the later miles - they do have to put up with their 'nearly there, keep going's being answered with quite a few 'f**k offs'!! My favourite on the day was the guy who shouted - "welcome to mile 18, it's the best mile of the race, the one you've all been waiting for... because... I'm here!" LOL

Sally, nonsense, you look like a woman who's just done a run, it's great :-)

I have no problem with the marshalls shouting out the mileage but at least get it right as it was so dishartening to find out that actually 11.25 was more like 10.5

    Sally,

Your photo looks like a woman about to START a half marathon not one thats finished. You obviously didn't try hard enough! (Sticky tonguey out smiley!).

But what a fantastic achievement - you had dismissed any concept of running the WHOLE race and yet you did it. You have now conquered the distance. You will simply want more of it now.

You may ache a bit tomorrow but Tuesday will be the worst day so take things easy.

Were there no mile markers? I've got to say I do feel sorry for marshalls sometimes - they must get so much stick, especially when they accidentally send the leaders in the wrong direction (yes, it happens regularly!). But they're volunteers and genuinely trying to help so allowances have to be made.

There was no mention of hills in the last 3 miles on the website, but you conquered them anyway!

    Great performance - well done.

Thanks Rich, again I really did look rough at the end and actually felt quite ill. Think I was dehydrated and very very hungry! There was definatley one steep incline at around mile 12 which nearly drove me to walk..tut tut!

off to see if I can find my official time out yet, think it might be 9pm though and I will be fast asleep in bed (had to get up at 5:30am)

Will really look forward to tuesday then rich, have to cycle 2 miles to work tomorrow...could be interesting!

You now have a record of what training led to today's time - the key now is to really think it through while its fresh in your memory. Where were you struggling, which parts of the race did your legs feel weak?, did they later recovery? how was your breathing at different parts of the race? how did you pace it- too fast early? Just about right?

Write down as much as you can because it all gives little clues as to how to structure future training. You'll forget the details pretty quickly and just remember the 'success glow' which is how it should be.

As you say though, its amazing how many people have no respect for the distance and go in under prepared. All I can say is they must love pain!

PS And you beat 7,000 people - now that must feel good!!

  • Heya everyone!

I is back...from the FANTASTIC Chippenham Half Marathon! What an amazing day, even despite being down one Garmin as I have managed to loose the thing in my messy house!

Anyhooos, did it in about 2 hours 16 mins as the exact times have not been released yet! I have some serious chaffing legs though :( so gonna be doing the whole lyrca thing next time!

    HUGE well done to Sallyx!

My legs have started to ache already...and my feet! Was birilliant having someone there to congratulate me as my dad came down to see me cross the finish line! What an AMAZING day! (sorry still on my runners high!)

Straight back to training this week, interval work for the Castle Coombe 10k in November! Just bring it!
