When you run you snap the outer most fibres of a muscle 'fibre bundle' and the remaining fibres in the bundle tighten up to prevent further damage. So they become less open to being stretched until the damage has been repaired.
I take it Pilates is quite extreme stretching then? Because gentle stretching would actually help the recovery.
That's making me wince just reading that!
Thanks Becky, interesting to hear that - I will be careful as to when I do the Pilates/ Ballet stuff then. Rich - Pilates is not extreme exactly, you're meant to do it so you don't strain anything and build up slowly, but it is easy to push it too far sometimes.
Becky - splits, wow.. I can still just about do them sideways from my ballet class days.. but not forwards!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

We should have, but it ended 7-7! I'm pleased with the way I played though, scored 2 good goals and some other good passes/interceptions/tackles etc. I've only recently started playing again and I'm starting to get back to the level I was before I stopped, though my game is still a bit rough round the edges. I'm still making too many mistakes and my touch and shooting isn't as sharp as it needs to be i.e. very inconsistent. I am quite hard on myself though and am generally pleased with my progress since my first game back which was a
I say we should have won because if our talented but selfish/lazy player had tracked back when we lost possession, we could have stopped at least 2 of the goals. Still, 1 win and 1 draw is a good start to our new season!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

thanks for the comprehensive answer.......... just the score would've done!
Nah! i'm joking! sounds pretty ace... but i'm not into team sports, so no danger of me looking for a ladies football club next, i'll leave that to Becks... i'll stick with swimming and running...
Swimming class is tonight.... ! I'm so lucky to have a supportive OH who doesn't object to doing the home thing while i go out to my things....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
right really must get a move on 3 days to go ...starting to get a nervous tummy (oh dear better get down to boot to get something for those nerves Maz otherwise I will be doing a Paula on the streets of Bristol!)
don't let those nerves get the better of you Sal....
What are you going to get for your nerves?? immodium? or rescue remedy??
SueUU - thanks for the shewee tip... i can't see me taking it around with me, nowhere to store it while running.... last night i had to run with my car keys tucked down inside my bra..... i was worried they might be a bit damp and not open the remote locking afterwards but they were fine, lol!!!
I'm off to buy a hi viz top of some kind at lunchtime, if the local sports shop has one... (probably the smallest sports retailer in the world ever!) Need one with a wee pocket for my keys.... the one i have makes me look like a bucket man!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

Hey, I had to get a reference to the amount of running I did in there to stay on topic!

Maz, when runners go to a race on their own by car they usually just take the ignition key and tie it into the shoelaces. It cant go anywhere and gets rid of the problem. Have a look when you go to a race, its one of those things you don't notice unless you're looking, but you will see quite a few 'key in shoelace' scenarios.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

You can get plenty of "hip pockets" too, that sit under your clothing and are just big enough for your keys and a phone...
Personally, I've got a wee camelback classic I take out on longer runs - has enough space for these things (I like to have a phone if I'm gonna be a long way from home...) and saves you carrying a water bottle, too...0 -
